Q: Any wedding cake ideas?
I can’t decide on a design, but I know I want to have chocolate cake. I would also like the cake to be white, but colorful decorations are great. If you guys find a colored cake thats pretty I’d love to see it too though. Any ideas are welcome!
A: Here’s some examples. The first one would just be a smaller cake to the side, or one on each side and the second would be the main cake.

With this, the color of the flowers would be the main color of your wedding theme.

And the same with these (the color would change to your color).

Q: Creative ideas for a chocolate themed wedding?
So far I’ve come up with the idea of having a chocolate fountain, candy bar escort cards, personalized M&M’s in our wedding colors, and a chocolate cake. We’re on a budget so fancy things like chocolate covered strawberries aren’t a good idea.
Anyone have any clever ideas?
Thanks!
Oh and PS: Our colors are CHOCOLATE brown and pool blue, if that matters.
A: Hi and congratulations!
If you are really on a budget, then totally forget the personalized M&M’s and just get regular M&M’s. Really! Those are extremely expensive…and, perhaps, people will not even notice!
I was at a wedding where they had these, and no one at our table even noticed except me…after I was eating the last one!
You can, however, just get ones in your “colors” instead of the personalized ones.
Q: how to make a chocolate wedding cake?
im making my own wedding cake we have over a year to practise so thought id play around so its perfect on the day. ideally we are wanting a chocloate wedding cake its going to be on a stand so it would be tiered.
is there any nice chocolate recipes out there that arent rich and how do i ice it tried looking on the net and they do fruit cake which i really dont want. once we have baked the cake whats next we are wanting either black or red icing too any ideas would be great ta
A: you want a chocolate wedding cake that’s not rich?!?!?!
I would try doing this cake from good food… http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4577/wedding-cake-rich-dark-chocolate-cake
It’s originally the bottom layer of a three tier cake. they also give a handy guide on assembling it…
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4578/creating-your-wedding-cake
because the chocolate is the bottom layer, You’d be able to do all three layers chocolate and it’ll hold up ok. It is a fairly dense, cake, but it needs to be to be a tiered cake.
as for the icing, I would use the ready to roll icing (available in all supermarkets) they suggest here. You can either buy white, and add a little food colouring (you can get food colouring gel off ebay which is better) and knead it well until the colour is well distributed. If you have a hobbycraft nearby, they sell coloured ready to roll icing.
btw ready to roll icing is also called fondant icing.
good luck and enjoy practising!
Q: want a gorgeous wedding cake any ideas where to look?
im looking for a gorgeous wedding cake but tired of searching through google. does anybody know of any good websites to look at for nice cakes? ideally i would like individual chocolate cup cakes with main top tier. thanks
A: Look up “charm city cakes” They do lots of fantastic cakes on the food channel.
Q: What are some good ideas for a wedding cake?
Ok my fiance and I are planning our wedding. We hope to have our wedding next to a river in Alabama. Our colors are Chocolate and turquoise blue. What would be some ideas for the wedding cake? I want to keep it traditional but in the same way kidda incorporate our theme into the cake. Just nothing over the top. You know?
A: I like both of these cake pictures – they incorporate your colors nicely:

Q: Homemade chocolate wedding cake?
My aunty has asked if i can make her wedding cake for her and looking back now I could smack myself for saying yes! I can make killer chocolate cakes even if i do say so myself, but these are for the eyes and mouths of immeadiate family, now im feeling the pressure, for a start, i do finish my cakes to a decent standard but not wedding cake, in your wedding album, to look back on the rest of your life standard im sure, so now im a lil scared, lol. Does anyone have any ideas on how i can finish the cake so it is to this standard? All feedback will be much appriciated, thank you.
Theres one other slight problem, time, she asked me if i could make this cake late sunday evening (18/05/08) she is going to bring the cake tin arounbd today, after she has bought it that is, so it could be any time and she is getting married on thursday (22/05/08), this is also why im a lil scared lol. Thanks.
A: Make marshmallow fondant to cover it. It looks fancy and elegant and tastes so much better than traditional fondant. If you want more details email me with your details of the cake and I’ll give you tips and ideas with what to do. I’d be happy to help.
Q: My wedding planner and I are gonna make the cake, Fondant is what I want how do I go about this?
I am no baker so chocolate cake ideas would be great and how do I use the fondant just to cover and maybe some cut outs to add to the sides of the cake, any advice would help! I really want it to come out beautiful so any tips would be great. I forgot to say my wedding planner hasnt used it befor either!
A: Fondant can be extremely hard to work with. Unless you have some practice its hard to cover a cake and smooth out the ruffles in time before the fondant sets so to speak and becomes hard.
If you have your heart set on working with it call around to a local cake decorator and see if they would be willing to give you a demo. Or if you have access to a culinary school ask the pastry instructor if they or someone else can give you pointers.
I have had some experience with fondant, and know that it requires some finesse to work with the stuff. It requires a lot of patience and quick, gentle handling in order to smooth it out onto a cake.
If you work with it and find that its too frustrating, what you could do is ask a local culinary school (if you have access to one) if they have any students who would be interested in helping you with this. Sometimes there might be aspiring pastry/cake decorators who have had more experience with the stuff and might be able to help you out.
Good luck!
Q: putting fondant icing on a chocolate cake?
I am making a wedding cake for a friend, and she wants one tier to be chocolate. any ideas on how to stick the fondant to the cake. i have also read that a layer of buttercream is a good idea to smooth off what marzipan usually hides…is this a good idea?
A: I would always be lead by the customer – particularly with a wedding cake as you want it to be perfect in every way. You will need to use either jam or buttercream so just ask your friend if she has a preference.
If you go for buttercream don’t put it on too thickly as this can make the fondant icing slide around when you are trying to smooth it. If you need to make it thicker in places to even out any imperfections you can then chill the cake for around an hour in the fridge before you apply the fondant and this will make it easier to cover.
Q: Help with wedding cake/cupcake ideas….?
My fiance & I are considering this for our wedding cake:
We would have a small (maybe 2-tiered?) traditional cake for the cake-cutting ceremony. Then in place of the groom’s cake have a stand of chocolate cupcakes to be served to the guests.
Another idea I had was to have a large tiered stand of cupcakes, with half of them white (for the ‘bridal cake’) & then the other half chocolate (for the groom’s ‘cake’ ). So if you saw the stand from the front, the left side would be all chocolate & the right side all white. If we did this, should we forget the small traditional cake all together & just do cupcakes?
Which idea do you like better? Any thoughts/ideas are appreciated! Just so you know, we are having a laid-back, outdoor wedding in the fall. Between 80-100 guests.
A: We had our wedding in October of 2007. We opted for the 3-tiered traditional bride’s cake and cupcakes for the groom’s cake. Our cupcakes were a mix of chocolate and vanilla, but they were all decorated with an S on the top…our last initial.
We bought cute little boxes and put a ribbon and a label on them, and we put one at each place setting. So the cupcakes became our favors. Every guest took one home in the little box.
EDIT!! If you will email me, I can send you some pictures!
Q: Chocolate wedding cake…?
My fiance really wants the wedding cake to be chocolate with fresh strawberries. I’m a huge fan of his idea (yummm!), but my mom said that we shouldn’t do that because lots of people can’t eat chocolate. Is that true? I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case for *dark* chocolate, but I think that lighter chocolate would be ok.
Our preference is to have one big, yummy cake rather than a separate bride’s cake and groom’s cake.
opinions, please!
I like the idea of having layers of different flavors. Thanks for that suggestion.
And…mom isn’t paying, we are. I just ask like to ask for input and opinions.
A: Non-traditional cakes are becoming more and more popular and I’ve seen beautiful wedding cakes that have chocolate drizzled on them with strawberries. Just stunning, and very memorable.
I personally do not know anyone who CANT eat chocolate. Some people monitor their caffeine intake, but there isn’t that much of it in chocolate.
To ease your mothers worries, why don’t you get the cake you and your fiance like, but get an inexpensive white sheet cake which can be kept in the back and cut and served at the same time as your decadent chocolate strawberry cake. You can get a large sheet cake for $20, and if your mother is anything like mine, $20 is a STEAL if it gets my mom off my back
Q: What store would sell chocolate seashells for my wedding cake?
Any ideas,please.
A: The place that is doing the cake can’t make them? You could get a mold from your local craft or party supply store and make your own. they sell the chocolate wafers to melt down and pour in the molds there to. you could get different colors as well. You can make them like a week or a few days ahead of time and put them in the fridge till you are ready to stick em on the cake. Or try these links if you wanna order off line…

Q: My colors for my wedding are tiffany blue and chocolate, any ideas of how i can combine them?
I keep changing my ideas on how i can make it work. I have plenty of time to think of it but i like to have everything planned in advanced…..far in advanced. I mostly need ideas on the cake and the groomsman’s tuxes.
A: Lovely colors! If you’re going for a classic look, I would recommend
-black tuxes for guys with tiffany blue vests and white shirts
-brown dresses for ladies with a thick tiffany blue ribbon around the waist. If you want another hint of color and are getting married in the warmer month, you could have them wear tiffany blue sandals.
They would complement each other very nicely, and it wouldn’t look overdone. You don’t want everything to be tiffany blue and brown, because they’re such striking colors so it’s easy to overdo.
For decorations, I would introduce a neutral color (like white or beige) into your theme as a backdrop (for table covers, etc.), and then use the two main colors for accents to punch everything up. You can make a huge statement that way.
For cake, somebody had a great suggestion – chocolate cake with tiffany blue accents or you could do a tiffany box with a brown ribbon.
Q: I am planning on making my sister’s wedding cake with different flavored cupckes…any design ideas?
I’m thinking of chocolate, spice, carrot cake, and white.
A: Get pieces of Styrofoam cut into circles from 36″+ down to 4″ (for the top cupcake). If the cupcakes are 4″ in diameter cut the circles so there will be 4″ tiers……all the way around…..which means 8″ variations on the circles’ diameters……(36″-28″ -20″- 12″-4″). When stacked it should look like the shape of a traditional wedding cake. Practice with cardboard cut-outs first, so you can get the picture of the finished “platform”. You can spray-paint or drape the Styrofoam with something white……or silver…..
The more people that are at the reception….the bigger the “platform” for the cupcakes needs to be. It does NOT have to hold every single cup…..you can have an attendant at the cake and they can constantly “update” the missing pieces of cake that people eat. Try to pick a corresponding icing decoration to signify which flavor the cake is. The main icing on top could be a creamy white colored sour-cream/cream-cheese icing that would go well with any of the types of cakes you’ve chosen.
I hope you see what I’m trying to describe………e-mail me if you need clarification. One problem you may run into is that it takes two hands to undo a cupcake from its wrapper. Most reception food requires only a fork or a couple of fingers. Can you “pre-peel” the wrappers and still have them look nice?? Try different methods out on some of the family before the reception to see if very old people and very young kids can navigate a plate and a drink and a fork and a cupcake wrapper…..with nice clothes on. It’s a tough job to test cupcake etiquette…..but SOMEONE has to do it!!! Volunteers should be easy to find.

Q: What are some good decorating ideas for a wedding with a coffee/chocolate theme?
I was thinking of using coffee beans in glass candle holders and also a chocolate fountain, but that’s about as far as I’ve gotten…
I was thinking a chocolate/coffee flavored cake for the grooms cake. My to be husband loves coffee and I work at a cafe, so I’ve been trying to brainstorm…
My girls will be wearing Espresso colored dresses and I will be incorporating blue or red (October wedding), so I was thinking some sort of berries and/or leaves…
Any decorating suggestions and if possible picture links would be so helpful!
A: What fun. I would not use blue doesn’t sound like it would go as well as a nice red. You could avoid colors and go with lighter browns and creams.
On the tables or cake table you could use Chocolate covered espresso beans instead of nuts and mints. There are also several places on the web for cool coffee favors (scoops, personalized individual servings, etc.). How about taking cool coffee cups or espresso cups and making your own candles to alternate on the tables. You could also have a coffee/espresso bar for guests.
Good luck…..great idea!!
Q: Coffee house wedding reception ideas?
My fiance and I are planning an evening wedding with a coffee and desserts reception to follow. We are having a cheesecake wedding cake and a chocolate fountain. We want to have a self-serve coffee bar area where people can choose between international coffees and teas.
Any ideas or suggestions to contribute? Ideas for fun desserts to go along with our theme? Ideas for themed favours or decorations? I am curious to know if anyone else has done this before? And if so, how did it turn out?
Answers to some of your questions…
1) No, we don’t expect everyone to drink tea and coffee. We’ll also be having barrels (filled with ice) of coke, diet coke, bottled water and juices for the kids.
2) There will be a few small chocolate fountains scattered through out the room so people won’t be crowded in one area.
3) And yes, we do plan on having entertainment – coffee house style with a small corner of the place as the stage. We have a friend who’s an amazing musician (sings/plays guitar) play towards the end of the evening.
4) The building is small and intimate – seats 75 or 100 standing/mingling. The floor is stone and the rest is woodwork so it will have the rustic coffee house feel to it. There is a kitchen, though we are trying to keep our dessert ideas simple.
Anyone else ever try a coffee and desserts reception? How did it turn out?
The biscotti idea is great…I can’t believe I overlooked that idea myself!
A: Someone was just on here the other day asking how to get the smell out of the coffee beans as they were being used as a filler for a centerpiece with flowers. That was a very pretty idea. Also there are italian coffee “biscuits” called Biscotti that are harder flavored and often chocolate dipped and go really well with coffee.
As for decorations I would maybe decorate bistro style. With the tables set up to seat a couple or 2, 4 people at most. Keep it simple. It would be fantastic if you could have an outdoor venue .
Or maybe go with a victorian tea setting. Lots of lace and full “fluffy” roses. I would use fans decorated with flowers and lace for centerpieces or the “granny”boots filled with flowers. As favors maybe put small fans and matchboxes next to each place setting
