Q: Wedding cakes in Melbourne Australia after a relatively cheap 2-3 tiered wedding cake recommend good price.?
Preferably 2-3 tiers with icing fruit cake or chocolate mud cake after reasonable (cheap) prices. Cheap wedding toppers of bride and groom. Thanks
A: My sister actually asked a woman who baked cakes for a reception place to make her cake privately. The woman was happy to do it this way as she didn’t have to go through the company and give them a portion of what the cake cost. She had a 4 tired cake (chocolate mud with white icing, flowers and ribbon) for $200. But I think she is retired now. Perhaps you could try venues in your area to ask the same thing.
Otherwise, another friend got her cake from Debbie’s cakes in Dandenong: http://www.debbiescakes.com.au/ she chose them because they were quite reasonably priced and could design it how she liked. She had her reception in the eastern suburbs- I’m not sure where in Melb your wedding is but you could ask where they cater to.
Q: Am I charging to much for a wedding cake?
I am being asked to make a 3 tier Wedding cake. White cake strawberry mousse filling and buttercream frosting. All of this completely made from scratch. Not a mix, fresh fruit, and no Gordon’s buttercream. A large cluster of fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate as a cake topper and throughout. I am charging $650. I don’t feel that I am over pricing because when you go to the local bakeries I know 70% of them don’t make anything from scratch. So much time and energy goes into making a cake from scratch… I have been making cake 10+yrs. But recently started making wedding cakes. Please advise.
A: Go to http://www.cakecentral.com and ask this question.
Most bakeries make their stuff from scratch. It does seem a very high for a 3 tiered cake, with minimal decoration on it that probably serves around 125 people. That’s $5.20 per serving and you didn’t use fondant, or do any real decorating work other than throwing on some chocolate covered strawberries. Way too high in my opinion. $1.50 per serving as others suggest is way to low on the other hand and doesn’t even cover supplies. I am a baker who makes everything myself and I charge $2.50-$4.00/ slice depending on whether or not there is fondant, gumpaste flowers, etc.
*poopeo – 5 hours to make it. Oh that gave me a chuckle. I guess bakers are magicians now too!
Q: help finding a certain cake topper?
It’s featured in the magazine “Modern wedding cakes and chocolate” 11th edition. Can’t take a picture of it cuz I’m not home. But I’ll try to describe it as best as possible.
It’s two brown bears sitting down on the cake. one of the bears is on one knee proposing to the girl bear. Please try to help me find them. The magazine is in Australia so it might be over there. I’ve googled it, typed in Animal cake toppers and bear cake toppers but no such luck…help! please!

Sorry I couldn’t find yours.. but I thought these were super cute!!
Q: What did/will your wedding cake be? (Flavors, fillings, desc?)?
Mine will be three tiers
Bottom tier-white chocolate with strawberry filling
Middle Tier-Chooclate with chocolate ganache filling
Top tier-Red Velvet with Cream cheese…
It will be white circles with black ribbon on the bottom of each layer and on top of that , a string of pearls and a few roses staggard on the tears.
We aren’t sure what we’re doing for our wedding cake topper yet..we were thinking dorothy with scarecrow…but not totally set in stone on that idea!
Our top tier will be served because with the fillings it wont freeze right, our price included coming back in a year to get a replica of the top layer for our one year anniversary!
TELL ME ABOUT YOURS!
A: Ours was a very buttery white cake with a pineapple custard filling and the most decandent white icing I’ve ever had… decorated with real cut flowers and aboslutely GORGEOUS… 3 tiers… what made it even better is that my neighbor made it for us for free… everyone RAVED about the work she did and how amazing it tasted.

Q: Wedding Cake Opinion.?
I need some opinion’s on wedding cakes. I have two ideas for cakes but I guess I need to tell you a little back ground info. We both love football, he played on his high school and college team and I was on the medical staff for mine. Our wedding is going to be winter themed, colors are an icey blue and brown.
I have two cakes in mind. One is this cake topper http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001S21ORM/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0011VRHZS&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0DMHAYHVB2NFSN6GCGH6
with either chocolate icing or buttercream icing.
Or this cake topper http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BCFRL8
with buttercream icing and pine cones. Pone cones because of the winter theme.
Which one would be best?
A: I like the doves, but I am bias!

Our theme was lovebirds though! I think you can mix your ideas and have the football topper with your pine cones. That way you are putting your personality and the wedding theme on your cake! Have fun and be sure to EAT some of your cake! I only had a bite of mine!
Q: Creative cake topper ideas?
Does anyone have any creative cake topper suggestions for a chocolate themed wedding? Were not interested in anything common and overly used (flowers, figurines, tacky rhinestone initials or whatever). The cake wont be anything overly dramatic. Probably just a 3 tier ivory cake with chocolate brown ribbon accents. Thanks for the help.
A: If you have a local chocolate shop in town, you can call them and see if they can create something on a stick that can be inserted on the top of your cake. A chocolate monogram would be nice as a topper.
Q: wedding cakes?
i am doing a cupcake wedding cake, and the groom cake is going to be his favorite greman chocolate, for the wedding cupcake cake i am putting a mini cake on top for cutting, the topper i am thinking of putting seashells on top of the mini cake and for the grooms i have no idea what to do, i got him a cake topper that has the bride standing up witha key in her hand and the groom is sitting with a ball and chain how can i make that into a beach themed wedding cake our colors are blue and white and a little ivory, any suggestions, what color should the cake be? how many cupcakes do i need for 120 guest? how should i make the cupcake weddign cake with that many cupcakes on it? i was thinking of making my our boxs to display the cupcakes on but for 120 people i was thinking 3 tier with cupcakes and then the 4th tier for the mini cake if i do that how mnay cupcakes should i put on each tier? please i am welcome to all suggestions.
the topper is funny and my groom to be loves it, everyone we know thinks it is cute becuase even since we have been together 7 years i have changed him for the better, he use to get in troble alot and do drugs now he is prefect for me nothing like that, so in a way it works for us
A: You can either use the mini cake on top for cake cutting and freeze the rest of it for your anniversary. Or you can feed each other a cupcake and save the entire mini cake for your wedding. But you can’t go wrong either way.
The grooms cake can be any color, flavor, or design. It does not have to match your theme; rather it should reflect your fiance’s interests. I would ask your fiance what he prefers since the cake should be of interest to him as the groom.
I’d recommend having at least 1 1/2 cup cakes per guest. Not every guest will eat a cup cake, but some guests may have more than one. So I think 180 would be a good number to make.
Here’s a couple of pictures to give you an idea for a cake display with a mini cake on top and cupcakes: http://www.mainecakesandcookies.com/andies_cupcakes.JPG

Q: Making my own wedding cake?
Ok, so I can cook/bake/make almost anything (as long as I have directions on some things). Well there probably will only be around 50 guests at our wedding (very small, but at lot of people can’t come bc they are out of state). I figured I could make my own wedding cake. Here’s my idea. I’m buying a 3 tier cake stand (the plates are different diameters, bottom one biggest, top one smallest). Well I’m wanting to make a 3 layer cheesecake for each tier. They are all going to be chocolate cheesecake and decorated with pink sprinkle sugar stuff and the top one the topper will be on w/a couple of pink lilies on it, and the bottom 2 tiers will just have pink lilies on them. It’s looking good in my head, but just wanting some people’s opinions on it. Any suggestons will be helpful. I’m doing them choc w/pink decor bc my colors are choc. brown & pink. I’m pretty confifent in my cooking abilities though. Thanks!
oh great idea about the ribbon! I’m going to do that too! =) (Oh and I will have plenty of time to make it, like I said its going to be a small wedding).
Oh and I’m going to have a practice run next month with my idea, just incase so I have plenty of time to order one, lol!
A: That sounds so good! Yes, and you can even maybe get your Mother-In-Law to be to help you! Good Luck!
Q: I’m not sure about this cake topper…?
My fiance and I are having a beach themed wedding (we got engaged on Martha’s Vineyard on the beach). The cake is going to be three tiered with chocolate and white chocolate seashells and coral and seahorses on them in our wedding color, which is fuchsia. My fiance and I have talked about doing a cake topper with the Ariel (The Little Mermaid) and Prince Eric on it…but not the one in their wedding gear, one of Prince Eric carrying areil while she is a mermaid.
Background. 1) The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie and all my childhood, into High School, I collected Disney movies 2) My fiance knows I love the Little Mermaid, we we are super dorky when we go to the ocean and we “play” the Little Mermaid, where he throws me into an on-coming wave to jump through it (so silly, i know, but its fun!
I hestitate because some people may not make the connection as to why that is our topper, esp. since I don’t have red hair. What do you think?
A: I think that is a really good idea! Something to make your cake unique and a good story to tell people.
We had two penguins dressed as a bride and groom for our cake topper. The reason behind it is that I am originally from South Africa and we have penguins on our beaches there. When we first started dating and I told my husband that we have penguins he didn’t believe me because there was no ice. It became a huge joke with us and therefore we decided to have penguins. We had the DJ explain this while we were cutting the cake so all of our guests could share in the joke.
You can decide if you want to share the story behind Ariel and Eric or just keep it between the 2 of you.
Q: Wedding reception ideas?
I’m not sure how to decorate my reception. We’re having a small wedding (35-40) people and the reception will be held in the church basement. I don’t want things to look tacky. It’s going to be a mid afternoon reception that way it’s in-between meals and people aren’t starving. And no alcohol.
I’m planning on having a veggie tray, fruit tray, cheese/meat tray (little chunks of meat) and crackers. Also different fruit and veggie dips. We’re having a cup cake wedding cake with the top tier a regular cake with flowers as the topper. I haven’t picked what flowers to top it with but my invitations are a wildflower theme.
For our center pieces I was thinking of having plates of different snack foods also. Chocolate/white chocolate covered stuff mostly. (chocolate covered pretzels, raisins, and peanuts) and then maybe in the center a small vase with lily of the valley in it. (how much do you think this would cost to have small vases with lily of the valley? I live in the midwest so it’s not a rare flower.)
We’d have white table cloths and I’d probably have smaller fabric in my wedding colors overlapping where the center pieces are. (like a diamond shape with the plate in the middle)
I’m trying to do things cheap, but not tacky. I hate balloons and paper bells, but flowers are very expensive and for how small and causal (and short) the reception is going to be I don’t want to spend a fortune on something that isn’t going to last very long…but I want it to look pretty.
Any suggestions?
Someone asked what time of year and what my colors are.
baby blue and ivory is what I’m leaning towards for colors. And probably a June or late May wedding.
I just remembered my grandma grows lily of the valley in her yard. I’ll have to ask her if I the vases if she’ll cut them and bring them for my wedding.
A: Actually, I totally love your idea of using snacks as the centerpieces. You could add little take-out boxes down the tables if you wanted, and your centerpieces could double as your favors. Then people could mix and match their snacks.
And I think the colored cloth will look great.
Q: Comic Book Wedding Theme Question?
I want to have comic books be incorporated some how into my wedding. We are both comic nuts. DC to be exact. LOL
I was thinking Huge chocolate bars wrapped in comic pages. What can I do for centerpieces for the tables? Any ideas or tips? Thanks so much! Our cake topper is Superman and Lois, and actually how he proposed to me was awesome..My ring was in a lead box replica from the show smallvile with glowing kryptonite…
A: i like the idea about the theme tables. i dont know how fun you want to be with the theme, but you could get some cardboard cutouts of you favorite characters so your guests can have a “photo op” with them. you also could make comic books about the wedding or your engagement or how you and fiancée meet. good luck with you wedding!!
Q: wedding ?s.. help me?
I am going to get married in September to my ex
Turns out that we still love each other and want to get “remarried”
I need help on what colors would be appropriate. Our last wedding we had a navy blue and white. It was pretty but that was like in 2000! I want an antique, vintage look… Like a grey and black or a champagne and black or a lighter blue and dark grey? I need help, please. For our cake I’m getting a three tier with one as chocolate, one as strawberry and the other as white with a white fondant and crystal accents and rose buds as the cake topper. It’ll be a small cake but for the kiddos they will have cupcakes with the same flavors… cool, think? I don’t know why I’m talking about the cake… I just need help with the colors
Any suggestions? Thank you
Oh, also I’m not wearing a white gown… I want it to be a color that is the theme color of the wedding. I don’t want to do the traditional wedding theme. Just keep vintage in mind and classy, kind of like an Audrey Hepburn touch.
A: The champagne and black sounds lovely and very antique/vintage. The cake sounds good too, and the cupcakes for kids idea is brilliant. You can probably get a champagne colored semi-formal summer dress that would work for you here.
