Q: Is it ok to have your wedding “cake” not match the wedding colors?
I’m doing a cupcake tier, with a mini-cake on top. My fiance and I love chocolate, which is the flavor for the mini cake. For the cupcake tiers, we are having a variety of cupcakes of different flavors. So I’m trying to figure out a way to make the whole stand seem uniform. If my wedding colors are lavender and red, how can my dessert stand represent those colors?

A: You can do different shades of purple and red… Like pinks, fuchsias, lavender, deep red, etc. Throwing some shades of green in there will look nice as well… Or gold, not both. But, don’t get too carried away on colors.

Q: How can I warn unsuspected “brides to be” about a wedding cake “scam”?
I wasmarried a year ago+1day today and had a very disappointing 1st anniver. I was told not to say a piece of my wedding cake by the bakery because they would make me a mini wedding cake for my one year anniver. I did just that and when I asked for my anniver. cake,I called 2 weeks before as instructed and was told they don’t keep records and what type of cake was it they said ok it will be ready for me the day before my anniver. My husband and I went to pick up the cake and the cake was not even the same color(mine was a white buttercream frosted this was a chocolate) they said there was nothing they could do, we took the cake just to have a cake for our special day. My husband called back and they said we don’t make special cakes for the 1st anniver. you got your cake. I thought the whole point was to have your wedding cake on your 1st anniver. I had been to several bakery’s and they were all advertising this “free” 1st anniver. cake Victoria Sweets triangle area, NC

A: I’m not sure if that’s a scam or not or if you got a shady baker. I might report them to the local BBB or tv news if I was convinced I had been scammed and maybe that would prompt more brides to complain if a similar thing had happened. But really as long as the cake is prepped and stored properly then it should be fine for the first anniversary so they probably just didn’t want to add too many layers to your cake on the front end and figured giving you a cake on the back end would work out for them.

Q: I Need Help With The Groom’s Cake!?
Does the groom’s cake have to be something he enjoys like a hobby, favorite sports team, etc or can it be just as simple as a mini wedding cake with chocolate, fudge, and/or strawberries (see links below)?

Thanks for the ideas!

A: It can be whatever you want!

P.S. I LOVE chocolate covered strawberries and those made my mouth water!!!!

Q: Wedding cake vs cupcakes vs cupcakes with top cake tier?
Which did you have? Or which do you prefer? .. As a guest, do you like the wedding cake or a cupcake tree better? I like the idea of chocolate cups as well and put the cupcakes in them but how would you keep them from melting without them getting cold and puting them in a fridge or something. Also, can you have a mini tiered cupcake? So everyone gets their own mini wedding cake? Thanks :)
Also, if you have cupcakes how many do you need? Cause I don’t want someone taking two and then there’s not enough (If someone does that’s fine I just want their to be enough) .. or does not everyone even eat the cake/cupcakes?
*there*…
http://www.fairycakesoffulwell.co.uk/images/testimonials/img015.jpg what I like is something like this so you can still have the cutting ceremony but your guests get individual things too.
http://www.my-wedding-cake-ideas.com/picture/wedding-cake-mf9e.jpg (mini wedding cakes) … I was thinking of something like this too (not with the other one obviously lol) … It’s just I think it’s easier and there’s no cutting or anything (except for the traditional bride and groom cutting) but I’m also worried that the adult guests will thinkit’s too childish to have mini cakes or something … am I being paranoid??

Also I forgot to mention I’m not actually getting married I’m just curious lol

Thanks forr all the answers everyone, keep ‘em coming lol :)

A: We chose to have cupcakes plus a 2 tiered wedding cake. I really wanted to be able to do the cake-cutting thing…you can’t do that with just cupcakes….

The other benefit of cupcakes is that you can do them in a variety of flavors, if you choose that route.I know our guests really appreciated the cupcakes–a big hit, all around!

We had a 2-tiered cake, plus 1.5 cupcakes for everyone there…some people could have 2 without us worrying about running out. At the end of the day, we only had like 8 cupcakes leftover and that’s it!!!! I wouldn’t go with less than that!

Q: wedding cakes?
i am doing a cupcake wedding cake, and the groom cake is going to be his favorite greman chocolate, for the wedding cupcake cake i am putting a mini cake on top for cutting, the topper i am thinking of putting seashells on top of the mini cake and for the grooms i have no idea what to do, i got him a cake topper that has the bride standing up witha key in her hand and the groom is sitting with a ball and chain how can i make that into a beach themed wedding cake our colors are blue and white and a little ivory, any suggestions, what color should the cake be? how many cupcakes do i need for 120 guest? how should i make the cupcake weddign cake with that many cupcakes on it? i was thinking of making my our boxs to display the cupcakes on but for 120 people i was thinking 3 tier with cupcakes and then the 4th tier for the mini cake if i do that how mnay cupcakes should i put on each tier? please i am welcome to all suggestions.
the topper is funny and my groom to be loves it, everyone we know thinks it is cute becuase even since we have been together 7 years i have changed him for the better, he use to get in troble alot and do drugs now he is prefect for me nothing like that, so in a way it works for us

A: You can either use the mini cake on top for cake cutting and freeze the rest of it for your anniversary. Or you can feed each other a cupcake and save the entire mini cake for your wedding. But you can’t go wrong either way.

The grooms cake can be any color, flavor, or design. It does not have to match your theme; rather it should reflect your fiance’s interests. I would ask your fiance what he prefers since the cake should be of interest to him as the groom.

I’d recommend having at least 1 1/2 cup cakes per guest. Not every guest will eat a cup cake, but some guests may have more than one. So I think 180 would be a good number to make.

Here’s a couple of pictures to give you an idea for a cake display with a mini cake on top and cupcakes: http://www.mainecakesandcookies.com/andies_cupcakes.JPG

Q: Wedding cupcakes-Mini or standard?
Im planning on baking cupcakes for my wedding in place of a normal wedding cake. Im having 375 guests. I was wonderging- which would you think is better- 300 standard cupcakes , OR 400 mini cupcakes.

We are also having a Chocolate Fountain with all the dipping items, so thats why I wont do 375 standard cupcakes.

A: I vote for 800 mini-cupcakes! Everyone will want at least two. The guys and the kids will want 3.

Well . . . if you are having the chocolate fountain too . . . you may be able to get by with only 500 mini-cupcakes.

Sounds yummy!

Q: Picnic recipes for wedding reception????
I am having a small and informal outdoor wedding at a plantation bed and breakfast next May. I want to do the cooking myself, and I am planning on making individual picnic baskets for each guest. I want the food to be a little more special than just lunchmeat or whatever, kinda old-fashioned, southern….

Preliminary menu–
Shaved prime rib w/horseradish mayo on mini yeast rolls.
Southern fried chicken
Garden Pasta Salad
Sliced Cucumbers and Onions
Kettle Style Chips
Chocolate Sandies Cookies
Cupcake Wedding Cake

Any comments or alternate ideas would be appreciated. Keep in mind that they must be able to be individually wrapped and packed in boxes. Must not need to be cold, and must be easy to eat outside.

A: We had a picnic for our wedding in England, but we had a caterer for each “table” so between 10 people (all seated on blankets in a meadowy part of a central london park) they shared a hamper. None of the food went to waste and everyone had a great time……I don’t have the menu to hand, but I can email it you , or I will find it and post it here.

Q: Does this sound okay for dessert buffet?
I am really REALLY pre-planning (think NOT engaged yet! hehe), but if our wedding consisted of 200 guests and we elect to do a dessert buffet and had the following, how much would we need of everything? And does this all sound okay and in proportion (not too many different cakes, cookies, etc?) Too much of something and not enough of something else? I THINK I will want to do all of it myself (minus the wedding cake!) with the help of family and friends. How much should I anticipate all of this costing, with everything being made by scratch?

A: That is a lot of work for you, If you are getting married do you really think that you will want to do all this baking? A commercial kitchen would have trouble turning this many baked goods out (unless it was a learning kitchen for 20 people) You would need to do about 15 of each cake (thats allowing 1 small slice of each cake per person) same as the pies about 75 or so of each cookie, as well as the others, about 5 of each pudding (allowing a 20 person serving pudding). You would think that because the main components you will be using are cheap (eg flour, baking powder, sugar, eggs) but all of the other ingredients will add up in the long run. Especilly if you are providing savoury foods as well.
If you are going to do a buffet of desserts maybe you should cost out your menu and go and see a catering company and see if they can beat the price or match it. There are other options like having a large roast and savoury buffet and then having petit fours (small bite sized desserts) or just 1 type of cake, 1 type of pudding, 2 types of cookie and maybe a mousse or icecream and maybe an appli pie & custard

Q: wedding dinner menu?
I want to do a sit down dinner with servers, i know that can get super expensive, but.. i dont have all that much money. what are some good yet simple and possibly a little on the cheaper side menu ideas. I know we both want fried green beans, those are our favorite food. what can we have to compliment those. we are also going to do a fruit/cheese/veggie table with a chocolate fountain and punch fountain and have 3 cakes, one of which is a surprise he doesn’t know about. my wedding cake is red velvet and his will be probably something lemon. his favorite. we are doing black and white with a little pink (in the flowers, mini calla lillies, pink and white hydrangeas.) i want the food to match the elegant simple wedding. if that makes any sense.

A: You could do a “pasta alredo” type of dish where they toss some shrimp or (even cheaper) grilled chicken into the dish. That way it’s mostly pasta, which is not expensive. You could serve that w/ a side of broccoli spears or green beans, or broccolini, maybe some “matchstick” veggies of carrots, squash, and zucchini. They’d be pretty on the plate and are not expensive veggies like asparagus. Serve rolsl and butter on the table. Wedding cake(s) for dessert along w/ choc. fountain. The fruit/cheese/veggie trays would be good for snackign on after the meal, while dancing or whatever goes on.

To be honest, I know you both love fried green beans, but I dont’ see them as “elegantly simple.” Plus, it is very difficult to serve a sit-down meal to numerous guest w/ fried food coming out hot and tasty. Often it just comes out cold and grasy, and that is just how large-group plate assembly goes. So, I’d suggest skipping them, and just eat plenty on your honeymoon! :-)

Q: Sunday brunch?
I attended a very nice wedding last weekend. They probally spend 75k..maybe more. Food and liquor was abundant.

For the rehearsal dinner we had lobster, steamers, clams choweder. Open bar.

For the reception, the cocktail hour had giant shrimp, clams, oysters, lamb (lamb!!!) , zesty chicken skewers, scallops wrapped in bacon, mini crab cakes and mushroom mini-quiches.

The plated meal had 3 choices of entrees, crab stuffed sole, tenderloin or vegetarian. Rolls, salad and steamed veggies.

Dessert was cake, chocolate fondue, fresh fruit, cheese, pretzels, cookies etc. Open bar

For the ‘after party” they had catering as well, they had procciuto and pancetta subs, chicken and peperonni panninis, mini-cannolis, chocolate covered strawberries….and open bar too.

The next day the had a Sunday brunch. I just couldn’t get my self to go. 1st because I was stuffed already, and second, because I wouldn’t dare to show up for more after so many splendid meals.
BDo you think that I somehow breached ettiquette by not showing up to the brunch? Both bride and groom went to Hawaii for the honeymoon the very next day, so neither of them would have been there.

Brides: Do you take offense if some of your guest don’t show up to your brunch?
No RSVP
We were out of town guests
Bf in wedding party
Both bride and groom were on their way to Hawaii and were not in attendance.

A: Of course not. The couple didn’t even go. I’m sure no one cared.

I went to a wedding similar to the one you went to and the bride and groom were so tired and out of it, they probably couldn’t tell you who even came. Brunches are almost always casual and very optional. We’re having a brunch and wouldn’t care if some people didn’t show.

Q: would this be to much sweet stuff at my wedding?
chocolate fountain with 4 dipping items per guest (ie mini donut, marshmallow, cube of fudge, strawberry)
candy buffet
1 vanilla sponge cupcake with icing per guest (our wedding cake will be a tier of cupcake)

the rest of food in the buffet will be savoury…some guests will be coming after the main buffet so the chocolate fountain, cupcake and candy buffet will be the only things left to eat.
nova…each guest can choose 4 dipping items from the ones i mentioned…we are having more marshmallows and strawberries as i think these will be most popular so it will be 30% marshmallow, 30% strawberry, 20% fudge cubes, 20% mini donuts.
kit…i know im loving the cupcake idea…as im from the UK i dont think many of my guests will have seen a cupcake wedding cake or candy buffet so im really excited about it!

A: I think that sounds really nice! Everyone loves sweets!

I’m also thinking of having cupcakes and the candy buffet!

Q: Wedding foods for summer?
we’re entertaining the thought of having a bbq buffet for our june 28th wedding. we already have decided on the following foods, what else should we add? we’re aiming for a light, summery feel. we’re getting married in a boathouse on the river and i would like to keep it informal and fun.

(i think we’re going to make most of the food ourselves and get a local bbq joint to cater the rest)

BBQ(obviously)
Pigs in a blanket-groom’s pick..lol
fruit and cheese platter
pasta salad
potato salad-my grandma’s recipe
raw veggies with hummus and other dip
pb&j mini sandwiches for the kids
cucumber sandwiches
mac and cheese

we’re also doing a cupcake “cake” and the groom’s cake is going to be my mom’s special peanut butter and chocolate cake.
it’s actually indoors, but yes, we;re having an open bar and i intend on putting out plenty of sweet tea, lemonade and sodas. ;)

A: You should definitely serve cole slaw. I used to live in the South and it is a tradition to put cole slaw on the sandwich with the BBQ…very yummy. One of the most popular BBQ places in my area also served these great huge sweet onion rings with their BBQ – they were about the diameter of the roll and an inch thick..sooooo good.

We have also given the kids PB&J for a large family party. We got those Uncrustables. You can get a large, bulk box at Costco or BJ’s. They’re cute and it will be one less thing you’ll have to make. For a killer mac & cheese recipe, use Pattie LaBelle’s “Over the Rainbow” M&C..it is too die for. I made it for a family party years ago and now they won’t let me bring anything else. Here’s the recipe if you want it… http://www.oprah.com/recipe/food/recipespasta/food_20020726_overrainbow Baked beans are also a staple for BBQs. This is my other party staple that I get raves about… http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Pats-Baked-Beans/Detail.aspx

If you want to do a signature drink, I would suggest Sangria. Many restaurants were offering it this summer and I got hooked. Very affordable drink to make and a good summer beverage. Use cheap red wine, rum and triple sec, mix with sugar and fruit juices. You can serve over Sprite or Ginger Ale to make it go farther or for those who like it less potent. Here is a killer recipe (yes, I am totally addicted to All Recipes) http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Sangria-Sangria/Detail.aspx

If you decide to do the BBQ yourself, it is really easy. I did it for my son’s birthday party. Buy pork loin in bulk at a place like Costco, cook in crock pots. The meat comes out so tender you just shred it with a fork and add your favorite BBQ sauce. Check All Recipes if you want to make a homemade sauce.

If you do decide to go with chips and salsa as someone suggested, you could do a peach or mango salsa for a summery twist. We did a BBQ-themed party for my Grandmother’s 80th and my mom made the prettiest large centerpiece for the food table. She got a large picnic basket, put in a checkered tablecloth kind of spilling out. Leaned down a bottle of wine, loaf of italian bread and had bunches of grapes spilling out…very pretty! For eating tables, we bought bunches of mixed flowers at Costco (gotta love that place!), pult the flowers in mason jars with checkered ribbons around the neck. Easy and affordable. My mom makes a signature peanut butter and chocolate cake too by the way…your groom has good taste!

Q: What would be the best drink to serve at a wedding shower?
The shower is on a Saturday at 12:30 in the afternoon. The menu is mini quiche, salmon mousse in phyllo cups, fruit kabobs, stuffed peapods, artichoke and spinach dip with herbed bread. The desserts are key lime tarts, pink champagne mini cakes, creme puffs and chocolate candy.

I would like to serve an alcoholic drink and a non-alcoholic drink, as well as coffee. We were thinking maybe a sangria and an iced tea, or mimosas and seven-up? Anyone have any good ideas? This is for ladies only and is a lingerie shower. Thanks!

A: bellinis – champagne with peach puree – divine!
some kind of sparkling stuff – there are lots of cheaper alternatives to champagne
Iced tea or sangria are also good options
For non alcoholic make a virgin punch – orange juice, pineapple juice and some grenadine. serve with umbrellas!

enjoy – your food sounds great!

Q: how much would my wedding cost?
night wedding possibly somewere outside about 150 people lots of flowers im think mini roses a decent photographer dont care about DJ he can be cheap…i’ll be flexiable with food and my cake i want chocolate…im getting married in may 2008 so im just starting to think about cost and such…any tips..i know i manly want lots of flowers and a nice place to be married at i dont really care about the recpection hall
my colors are lavender and baby blue
i live in southern california

A: Weddings can cost a lot or a little. Where do you live? This often plays a big factor in the price of things. I suggest calling around just to get examples of prices.

I do have a great tip for you! Seeing how you said that you want a lot of flowers, specifically mini roses, have you thought about doing them yourself? I ordered my roses online and they were soooo much cheaper. I too wanted nothing but roses. I had 500 Black Magic roses delivered to my sisters house and we arranged them ourselves. The company I used was fantastic!! I ordered a couple of bunches for my bridal shower to make sure they were nice and everything. I can’t tell you enough what a pleasure it was working with them. To give you an idea of what kind of savings I’m talking about, I paid $517.50 (including shipping) for 500 premium long-stem Black Magic roses. I called several florists and they quoted me between 1750.00 and 2500.00 for the same thing through them and that was just flowers, no arranging. The company I went through was www.2groses.com. They sell spray (miniature) roses, too!

Congratulations and Good Luck!!

Q: Wedding Rip Off in Gran Canaria, what do you think?
Gran canaria sunshine weddings.
www.wedding-planner-gran-canaria.com
www.grancanariasunshineweddings.com

Think twice about getting a wedding planner in gran canaria!!
Here’s why…
Hi, I got married in Pureto Rico in August, Pureto Rico has some beautiful places, also pureto mogan, its beautiful.
As For Gran canaria sunshine weddings, they are great help UNTILL YOU PAY THEM.
I had numerous of problems and loads of things that were ment to be in my package that I had paid for, were NOT there for my wedding reception.
We had originally planned all the wedding ourselves, untill the hotel we had booked for our reception became unavailable to hold our reception. A few weeks away from our wedding date, naturally i started to panic. I got onto gran canaria weddings via the internet, and to my delight, they were able to help us. Great!….eh.. not so great. From the word go they knew that we had most of the wedding already sorted, that we just needed a reception. we then saw on there website that they do vegas themed weddings, so we decided to go with the package as it sounded lovely….
Las Vegas Theme, you can either have just the show which is a 45 min- 1 hour show with a 5 piece (female singer, 2 show girls and 2 showboys) with a photo option afterwards where the cast will pose with guests or you can really capture the whole Las Vegas feel,
Together, you sweep into the banquet hall under the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign. Arm in arm, you stroll down the red carpet that can only signify a VIP affair.
The guest tables feature bold red napkins on white skirted tables sprinkled with poker confetti. Gold lame bows on each chair cover bring the glamour stakes high.
Guests found their way to their seat thanks to elegant vegas style place cards, and signs that name the tables after famous old Vegas casinos: The Golden Nugget, Binion’s Horseshoe, Jackie Gaughan, etc. Your guests will fall in love with the individual favours at their seat … Vegas chocolate bars personalized with the date of the wedding and the name of the bride and groom.
A scattering of coins and a mini slot machine on every table will give guests plenty to talk about while they wait for your big entrance, and disposable cameras will make sure you don’t miss a minute of your reception – even the bits you don’t see.
To leave no doubt that this was a wedding your centrepieces are glamourous yet traditional, and all infused with a touch of Vegas thanks to the casino finishing effects.
At the back of the room is a mini-casino area where guests can play a hand or two … all with the chips provided of course!
Background music will of course be Vegas themed too, featuring classics such as Ol’ Blue Eyes’ “Luck Be a Lady,” “The Lady is a Tramp,” and “Fly Me To The Moon,” Elvis’ “Viva Las Vegas,” Nat King Cole’s “I’m Shooting High,” and Ella’s “Ace In The Hole.”
A glamourous Las Vegas themed cake is provided with this evening for you and your guests to enjoy
We can do smaller packages and part themes but to create the whole las Vegas theme you might as well go for broke!
As you read, it sounded lovey. But. most of it was missing!
1. No red carpet
2. No overhead welcome to las vegas sign
3. No cameras
4. No cordless microphones.
5. Only 3 singers & dancers turned up
6. No stage or lighting, we could not see the show?
7.No Backround music.
8.No mini casion area? there was a deck of cards and a smaill tin of chips put onto a table out of view, after 11:30pm.
9. No mini slot machines on the tables or coins or poker confetti.
10. I was told we were not getting centre pieces as i organised my own flowers, so I spent alot of money buying my own centre pieces, but i was charged for my own centre pieces.
11. we got wedding favours chocolate bars for our guests, but again these were not given out, but were put onto a table out of sight, after 12am
12. The dj did do her best, but her hard drive with all the music on it was broke when we arrived, and we had to party to no up to date music
13. we were also charged €200 for table cloths that the HOTEL provided, and a pack of paper napkins..
14. we asked for a bottle of champaine, and were told no, the hotel ran out of most bottled beer by 10pm and we were told No when requested to buy them from the other bar in the same hotel.
We paid for a vegas style show with vegas singers and decorations, a full theme, we got no Stage, and no lighting, it should have been a 5pc show and the day of my wedding i was told there would be only three.(although we were prommised it)we could not see the singers or dancers, i can email you over photos of these, and my hair, if you would like to see. There was loads of things missing and loads of things that went wrong, the wedding planner basically told me that she employed someone to do the decorations and entertainment (vegas theme)and the things that went wrong were not her fault, and that i had to chace up the problems i had with the entertainers and try

A: that was supposed to be your special day and they ruined it-i would sue in small claims court and sue for emotional distress…u cannot get that day back.there is some list on the net-like angies list i believe where you can write down your whole experience and it lets ppl know not to deal with that company, they can read the expieriences for themselves
