Q: is this a good idea for my wedding cake to save money?????? can i get away with it without it looking silly?
me and my husband to be both do not want to spend hundreds of dollars on a stupid huge cake. some brides care about the cake but i am one of those brides that dont. I would rather spend my money on my decorations and honey moon.

i have an idea on what to do to save money so i need to know what you think or if you have any better ideas that does not include me gettting a big cake.

here is my idea:

-a small 1 or 2 tier cake for bride, groom and wedding party, and 2 big sheet cakes for guests…
do you like this idea???????

i of couse will make sure the 2 tier cake and sheet cakes have flowers on them and make them look really fancy.

Do you like this idea???? will it look silly or cheap??

A: if you are looking to save money, try walmart’s bakery. they have cakes that feed over a hundred for about $150. they are decent looking, but of course not super fancy. it would be an option if you want to keep it elegant.

if you do a sheet cake, consider doing a picture cake with a pic of you and hubby and have them write the wedding date and just married above/below the picture. you can make the colors consistent w/your theme.

Q: Wedding cake options?
So i was wondering whats your opinions on wedding cakes.

A: my favorite is modern with iced flowers and decorations. My wedding cake is 5 tiers, all differant sizes, blue, with little blue flowers and edible pearls and in white icing little saying are written all over the cake, like ‘Happiness, To Have and To Hold, Happily Ever After’ ,etc.

oh, and it can be wahtever filling you want. i like some fruit cakes, but i think i want Red Velvet, but i haven’t decided yet.

Q: Does anyone Know Where I can Get Non- Edible Cake decorations for Halloween?
Hi, I am creating a haunted wedding scene in my front yard this year, and of course what’s a wedding without a cake right? So I purchased a fake foam 5 tiered cake and plan to paint and and decorate it like a real cake, and I need decorations that are not edible.
I would like some dragonflies or bats that stick out from the cake not sit on it, if you know what I mean, as well as spiders, and a plastic knife to stick in the cake, I also need a relatively cheap but spooky cake topper or any ideas for a cake topper.
Does anyone have any Idea where to purchase these items on-line, or in the Pittsburgh area?
any help would be great.
Also if anyone has ideas on how to make the reception party that would be great, I have the Bride Ghoul, Groom Ghoul, preacher (Grim Reaper) I even have Gore May Crackers, and a Finger Food Bowl with fake fingers in it for the food tables..really gross but really cool..I found these at www.frightcatalog.com.
I also have a really great wedding arch that I plan to decorate really spooky with black organza, a crow, a dead black flowers, and possibly a buzzard..I haven’t decided yet.
Can anyone Help with these things thanks so much..
I can’t wait until Halloween..It’s my favorite

A: i don’t know if y’all have them in pittsburgh but i usually go to somewhere for like Michael’s or hobby lobby for non edible halloween stuff…. they are relatively cheap and have awesome stuff…
i cant wait either! i love halloween!

A: ask the google he can tell you best where to find good luck

Q: Please help, I’m looking for wedding cake toppers but having no luck…?

I’ve tried loads of sites but all im getting is either black couples or black and white couples, i need somewhere that has what i’m looking for or can mix and match brides and grooms.
Preferably somewhere in the UK, and not too pricey.
Thank youu =] x

Q: Help with making a wedding cake. ANY help welcome!10 points!!!?
I need to make a fairly simple wedding cake for Friday. My plan is a square vanilla sponge cake, iced, with decorations.
Help! It should serve 30 people, I need a recipe for the icing using icing/confectioner’s/powdered sugar. Preferably without shortening, don’t know what it is or where to get it.
Also, can you give me an easy vanilla sponge recipe, with measurements please? Any decorating ideas? I thought of a ribbon around the edge, little silver-ball decorations, writing icing, and/or a little statue of a bride and groom.
I only have two hours to make it, including the baking.
Oh, one other thing. Can i make the icing sugar a day or two in advance, and if so, do i keep it in the fridge, or what?
Thankyou SO much! Even if you can only answer one question, i would be greatful!!!!
Remember…10 points!!!!!!!
Is ‘ff’ supposed to help me make a wedding cake? Hmmm…. or to get two points?

A: Here’s a wedding cake I made for my sister’s wedding:

For the assembly:
2 (12 by 2-inch) round layers sponge cake, recipe follows
2 (9 by 2-inch) round layers sponge cake, recipe follows
2 (6 by 2-inch) round layers sponge cake, recipe follows
12 inch cardboard cake round
9-inch cardboard cake round
6-inch cardboard cake round
2 1/2-inch thick long wooden dowels
Small saw
Buttercream, recipe follows
Marzipan flowers
Fresh flowers
Fruit
Cake decorations
Colored buttercream in pastry bags with assorted tips
SPONGE CAKE FOR WEDDING CAKE:
**This recipe will need to be made twice, each time you will bake 1 (12 by 2-inch) layer, 1 (9 by 2-inch) layer and 1 (6 by 2-inch layer. Do not double this recipe — make it twice, separately.**
15 ounces flour
1 teaspoon salt
12 large eggs, separated
15 ounces sugar
8 ounces butter, melted and cooled
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line the bottom of 1 of each size of the pans with parchment paper. Sift the flour with the salt. In a mixer fitted with a whip attachment, beat the egg yolks with 8 ounces of sugar until light and fluffy and tripled in volume. Beat the egg whites with the remaining 7 ounces of the sugar until soft peaks form. Fold the egg yolks gently into the egg whites. Gently fold in the sifted flour. Gently fold in the melted butter and the vanilla. Pour the batter into each of the 3 pans. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until center is set. Remove from the oven and run a knife around the edge of the pan to loosen it and cool on wire racks. Repeat this procedure to make 1 more layer of each size.

BUTTERCREAM:
4 cups sugar
1 3/4 cups water
16 egg whites
1 teaspoon salt
5 pounds butter, softened to room temperature and cut into pieces
4 tablespoons vanilla

In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Heat to a temperature of 248 degrees F on a candy thermometer. In an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the egg whites with the salt until they hold stiff peaks. With the mixer running, drizzle the hot syrup into the whites being careful not to hit the whip with the hot syrup. Beat mixture at medium speed until cooled to room temperature, 15 to 20 minutes. Turn the mixer down to low and add the softened butter, piece by piece. **It is very important that the butter and the meringue are the same temperature. If the buttercream begins to break, Slowly heat it up to about 95 degrees F. over a double boiler, while whisking. Return to the mixer and beat until it comes back together. Continue adding butter*** Mix in the vanilla.
To assemble: Cut each of the cooled cakes in half horizontally. Stack each of 4 layers of each size, icing in between each layer on a corresponding size cake circle. Make 3 separate 4-layer cakes. Ice each of the cakes separately. Place the 12 by 2-inch cake on a large platter. Cut 3 lengths of the wooden dowel that are as long as the 12-inch cake is high. Insert the dowels in a triangle pattern in the center of the 12-inch cake. Cut 3 more dowels that are as long as the 9-inch cake is high. Carefully place the 9-inch cake on top of the 12-inch cake in the center, on top of the dowels. Insert the dowels into the center of the 9-inch layer in a triangle pattern. Carefully place the 6-inch layer on top of the 9-inch layer. Decorate with fruit, flowers and marzipan.

*Note: If you don’t have a marzipan flowers you can always just use the fruit.

Hope you enjoy it!

Q: wedding shower cake ideas?
Any unique or fun messages to put on a wedding shower cake?
The cake is honoring both the bride and groom (not just a bridal-cake).
It will be a full sheet cake from a local bakery grocery store, so the design will be simple.
They don’t do a lot of custom decorations so it will be white icing with black piping along the edges (the color/them is black and white).
So….any text ideas?
ummm did i add that this should be affordable, and that there are no bakeries where im at….Like i said, the only thing we have is a grocery story bakery…so imagine Wal-Mart type bakery. I doubt they would do special chocolate squares lol
Also, the black icing is just dyed black, and there are no flavors added to it. I’ve tried it.

A: I’ve never seen a shower cake that had text on it. Most of them were a pretty cake like this
http://i.timeinc.net/recipes/i/recipes/su/06/12/candy-cake-su-1559182-l.jpg
http://www.allindiaflorist.com/imgs/cake10_1.jpg
but nothing that was actually designed.

Usually the colors are the bridal colors or the theme of her wedding. For example, my cousin’s wedding colors were mocha and latte so due to the coffee theme, we had tiramisu for her cake.

I would suggest excluding black piping. Usually that tastes like licorice and tastes terrible. I would suggest a checkerboard pattern using Ghirardelli Squares.

Use flavors to make it pretty. Blueberries, strawberries, something like that. If that’s just impossible for these guys, stick with a typical wedding design like bells or doves. Or one of their birthday party couples–Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Price Charming, Disney’s Robin Hood with the foxes.

Q: Can someone help me with a pre-wedding scrapbook? I am making it pre-wedding for my cousin! HELP! Easy 10 pts!

What else would you do? What wouldn’t you do? Thanks for your help! Any tips or websites would be great!

A: I think all of your picture ideas sound awesome!

The only addition I can think of comes from something I saw a friend of mine do when she was the maid of honor in a wedding.

She had everyone write a small letter to the bride. It was mostly her bridesmaids, her mother and mother-in-law, and anyone else you think is important to the bride. You would have to do this early in order to get the notes back from everyone.

The letters can be about anything they want to say. Their wishes for the bride. Their favorite memories, anything!

It can be done two ways. Either everyone emails or snail-mails the notes to you
OR
You pick out the paper you want the notes to be on and give them or mail them to each person who is writing notes. This way you won’t have to re-write the notes and everyone can personalize them if they’d like. ALSO you can pick out paper that would look nice in the notebook.

I think it would be so neat as a bride to have a little note or letter from everyone close to me!

My only suggestion would be that if you are letting people email/mail their letters, give them some kind of wording limit for the sake of it fitting in your scrap book.

Best of luck to you and how incredibly thoughtful and sweet of you to do this for your cousin!

EDIT: Oh yeah, be sure to give them some kind of deadline as to when you need the notes back!

Q: Do wedding cakes have to be round?
Recently the trend seems to be round cakes with tier and upon tier. I would much rather have one large sheet cake. I’m a simple person and I could get a rectangular sheet cake that costs have the price of a cake with four layers and a lot of frilly decoration.

Would it be tacky to have a a large flat sheet cake for the guests and a small round cake for the bride and groom? The wedding I want to have (when the time comes) would be simple and very laid back – almost BBQ like. I don’t want to spend more than $200 or so on the cake total.
Haha. Wedding pitchers.

A: Remember its YOUR special day. With that said I think a sheet cake is perfectly acceptable! =]

Anyone got any advice for the wedding AND the wedding night? (We’ve both waited to have sex on our wedding night – and that’s the truth)

Thanks!

A: You have entertainment for the reception?
About the wedding night. My wife and I both waited for our wedding night. My advice is take it slow and gentle. It will be a new and wonderful experience. You will have plenty of other nights to learn about each other! We have just celebrated our 36th anniversary. God bless you on your Wedding day and grant you a good life together. Hope this helps.

Q: Cake Crisis with only 4 days left, Please HELP!?
Okay, I just heard from my reception hall that they can not provide the cake I chose for my wedding THIS Saturday because the cake store has discontinued it. I can’t believe it. So, I’m going to publix and have it narrowed down to one cake I like. The first link is for the cake shape and size that I like. Three tiers, towers inbetween (mine will have flowers not a bride and groom) and feeds around 75-95 guests. The second link is to a cake whose decoration I like, with the swags. What do you think? Will it look right if I do the size and shape of the first cake with the decoration from the second cake? I can’t believe this is happening 4 days before the wedding!
http://www.publix.com/food/catalog/ProductDetail.do?id=120

http://www.publix.com/food/catalog/ProductDetail.do?id=130

A: Yep, I think that’ll look great! I love green. You better order it asap..!
You poor thing, I can’t believe that your reception place did that to you!! They should’ve at least researched and offered you some kind of alternative! I hope they offer you some kind of compensation..

Anyway good luck!!! Hope the whole weekend’s great!

Q: Wedding Guest Survey – How important is all the ‘Stuff’?
My wedding is in 12 days – I went the non-traditional route – no church, evening wedding, cocktails and hors d’ouvres, personalized music and vows. All I want is for my guests to have fun and for the wedding to be a reflection of my fiance and myself.
The question is – how important is all the ’stuff’ we brides spend $ on for our weddings? Is it necessary to break the bank in order to have a great day? I definitely did not. In the end, will the guests remember the exact details of the centrepieces, the cake, the decorations and the bouquets? Would fabric tied around chairs really matter? With the shows on TV and the magazines dedicated to weddings, it seems normal to spend crazy amounts of $ on the little stuff. I want to hear from brides, grooms and wedding guests – how important is the ’stuff’ to you? If the food, music, and company is good – do people need to fret about the rest? I want to know if I’m the only one who feels this way.
I should mention – The decor at our wedding will be nice, there will be flowers and cake, etc…I’ve just cut a lot of corners (buttercream instead of fondant, simple centrepieces instead of tons of flowers, I made my invites…) By ’stuff’ I mean $400 tiaras, personalized napkins, $15000 buffets… imported orchids…

A: I remember the one thing most unusual or unique about every wedding I’ve ever been to, and have a general impression about the location, food, and the bride’s dress.

For instance, I remember the wedding where the groom played a song he’d written for the bride. I remember the wedding where the bride and groom exited in a shower of rose petals up a grand stairway that led from the ballroom to the rest of the hotel. I remember the crazy amount of chocolate desserts a couple had instead of a cake. I remember the pictures one couple used to name every table, instead of the traditional numbers.

The wedding industry expects brides to hear numbers like “that’ll be $250 per centerpiece” and just get out our checkbooks. But really, no one will remember, and everyone will have a good time if the bride and groom are genuinely in love, and lots of fun if the food and music are also good.

Q: TO: Most Bang for My Wedding Buck?? Help!?
Check out www.CraigsList.org, select your state then city and then pick Events and you should find all kinds of vendors that can help you.

I found a Country Club with a Gazebo that will provide: setting up chairs for outside; the Reception room-tables-linens-dinnerware, etc.; appetizers; Cash Bar with Bartender; after Ceremony the dinner with Salad, 2 Meats, 1 Starch, 1 Vegetable, Rolls; Champagne Toast; Cake Cutting; 2 Private Rooms for the Bride & Groom to dress and change in; and all clean up for $1,050.00.

I also found a photographer who is still in college looking to do Weddings for her portfolio, she is free.

My daughter goes to school with a student who will do the DJ/MC for just gas money.

I am making the 3 tier cake – it’s not that hard – get a Wilton book and follow directions. And I’m making all the decorations; plus Ring Bearer Pillow, Toasting Glasses with the Bride & Groom’s clothes, Gift Card Box & Guest Book. I’m very crafty too but it’s very easy.

An idea I just had today was instead of buying 7 vases for the tables, which even at the Dollar store is going to cost $7.00 I am going to buy a box of 8 – 17 oz. glasses and 8 tumblers for $9.00 at WalMart and use 7 of the glasses as vases for artificial flowers on the tables and then after the Reception they can have the whole box and after washing the glasses they are as good as new!

Other than the Country Club the most expensive thing would be flowers but check online for wholesale distributors.

My daughter found her custom made Bridal Gown at www.lightinthebox.com and it is beautiful and was only $78.00 (yes seventy eight dollars) plus $40.00 for shipping and reviews on the site were all good – no alternations needed, etc.

Hope this post helps someone!

A: An option to look into for flowers:
Your local garden center or nursery, perennials are less expensive than cut flowers, the black nursery pots can be dressed up inexpensively with tulle and ribbon, plus you can then use them either to plant at your first house together as a couple, or give them as gifts to the people that helped with the wedding and reception.
I own a garden center and weddings are becoming a large part of my business.

Q: What are some good ideas for a very intimate wedding?
If I were to get married, I would prefer a small, intimate wedding. Parents, brothers, sisters, period. Nothing expensive at all. Maybe after the honeymoon is over and we return, we can throw a celebration party where everyone and their dog is invited. I really had my heart set on going to my city library to be married there, but I recently found out that our library stopped preforming marriages, and I don’t believe (or I don’t know of any) other libraries that offer that service (at least not around here).

I want something simple, but not quite as crumby as the courthouse . . . But maybe that wouldn’t be too bad, actually . . . Ha ha . . . I don’t know.

Any ideas for a small, informal, intimate wedding?

My heart use to be like any other girls heart . . . Full of dreams of a big, beautiful wedding, with lots of planning, bride’s maids, groom’s men, decorations, flowers, formal attire, photographers, a wonderful reception, food, huge cake, a limo, and so on. But my life took very drastic twists and turns, and I can honestly say that my heart is nowhere near those dreams.

A: Do you have any small parks in your area? Maybe one that is just set up for picnics or has a Gazebo that you could use.
