Q: What are some easy and cheap decorations and flowers and cake ideas for a christmas themed wedding?
I am getting married December 27th, 2008. I need some ideas as far as decorations, flowers, and cake layouts with a Christmas theme to them. I have thought abouut having my children cut out snowflakes from paper, and hang those from the ceiling. I am on a very tight budget and need some good, but inexpensive, ideas for flowers, decorations, and the cake. PLEASE HELP. ALL SUGGESTIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
My colors are the traditional green, deep red, white, and we are throwing a little bit of purple.

A: Go to your local party rental and rent big glass bowls for your centerpieces then the day after christmas go to your local Dept store and buy boxes of christmas balls. Fill the bowls with the balls and you have your centerpieces.

Instead of flowers, use greenery and holly wth berries, much much cheaper than flowers and very beautiful. (be sure to clip the Holly leaves of the prickers though)

For the cake again, Christmas balls, glue them into a small pile and get a seated bride and groom cake topper set and glue them seated on the top of the top ball. You can also get those little silver sugar balls, and put them all over the cake to make it sparkle.

Christmas is a great time of year because everything is pretty much decorated for you, so you will save alot of money there. You can do this on a very small budget. Remember to take advantage of the after christmas sales this year, you will be able to get alot of good deals!

Good luck!

Q: Any wedding cake ideas?
I want something out of the ordinary

(as far as taste goes NOT design already got that picked out!)

Any ideas?(as far as icing, decorations on the cake, and the cake flavor goes)

AND does anyone know if Coldstones Creamery would make a wedding cake?

If so that would be pretty freakin awesome!

A: I work for an ice cream shop not coldstone and we do make ice cream wedding cakes. before you decide to go with them ask alot of questions. I’ve been doing this for 15 years and can make cakes look like a picture and if I can’t I let the customer know up front. Also they probably aren’t usually in the business of delivering and setting up wedding cakes. getting your cake very cold with the help of dry ice is the key to it all. But your photo opportunity time is still very limited. Have a pretty cake for pictures. Some bakeries have dummy (display)cakes made from styro-foam they might rent to you. Then keep your ice cream cakes in the freezer and cut them before serving. Have your caterer check with the ice cream cake place so they know how to temper the cake so it can easily be cut and not be glop.

Q: Looking for Gold decoration ideas for a cupcake wedding cake.?
I have been asked ot make a cupcake wedding cake for this weekend (YIKES, nothing like short notice). The wedding colours are gold and olive green. Does any one have any ideas for decorating thecupcakes/cake stand with things that are gold???

A: There is this thing called “gold foil”, it’s a thin thin layer of “gold” like material and I’m almost positive it’s edible. Michael’s has it. You could put brown frosting with gold foil and olive green detail maybe- depending on how creative you are :)

Good luck!

Q: Wedding cake Pictures / Ideas????
Hey guys can anyone help me – Im looking for a unique wedding cake i want my wedding cake to look like it has pink rhinestones on it – i have looked at edible pink sugar crystals and shimmer powder – if anyone has any ideas on that let me know – also if you have any pictures of wedding cakes with pink decorations that are different and unique let me know – Thanks guys !!!
Hey thanks NikiD – Hot Pants is just stupid – first of all on her profile it says shes a man LOL but has a girls pic – so i dont know i thought gay men knew some stuff about style and differnt new things – but if i was never goin to be able to get married because i was a B%TCH then i would be a lil sour too — lol

A: Unfair comment “Hot Pants”. It doesn’t have to be tacky at all.

I would suggest your best idea is probably not to put the rhinestones ON the cake itself, but have wired decoration that has rhinestones on it.

This is a cake I did last week that was pearls, and has a few rhinestones on it, which gives an idea of what I mean: http://70.84.190.115/6295/37/upload/p4527778.jpg

Or I just found these: http://www.advantagebridal.com/meviwecaje.html

I would go with Hot Pants recommendation of finding a local cake decorator and asking him or her for ideas. Anything is possible. It’s your day, you should have whatever you want, and be damned what anyone else says or thinks.

Congratulations!

Q: How to ice wedding cake? Ideas?
I have 6 months to learn how to make a spectacular wedding cake. I’ve already been practising and what I’ve come up with already seems pretty good.

What are most wedding cakes usually made of? I don’t want to do fondant although I know that’s a common one.

I’d like to use royal icing but I don’t want it to be completely hard.

Should I ice the whole cake in buttercream then do the decorations in royal? Or ice all the tiers in buttercream first then putting a layer of royal over top? Will that work? What is usually done? Thank you!

A: Crumb coat the cake with butterceam
Frost the cake with buttercream icing
Use royal icing for decorations, etc.

Go to Wilton.com or Baking 911 for more info

Note: One of the prettiest and tastiest cakes I ever made was a carrot cake. I used clear vanilla for the cream cheese icing. The cake still had a soft ivory color but it was very pretty. I used a simple shell border to decorate the cake.

On the top I placed lots of fresh flowers. Be sure to use organic or pesticide free flowers and to use a barrier between the cake and the flowers. Wilton sells them. Also, be sure to use NON TOXIC flowers or you can poison your guests.

The flowers were so pretty.

Another option is to make gum paste flowers. I made about 100 ivory gum paste roses for my parent’s anniversary cake. They looked lovely on their two tier anniversary cake.

Q: Wedding ideas and photos of anything black and white theme with red and orange accents?
My wedding will be next August and I have definitely decided on black and white with orange and red accents but I want more ideas on centerpieces, cakes, decorations, dinnerware(i am on a budget so decorative paper plates), etc. Anything would help at this point! Thanks in advance to everyone!

Q: Wedding cake and reception ideas needed, for fun young couple.?
We are planning an outside wedding and reception for 250 people in august in a walnut grove. Its a beautiful canopy of green walnut trees and grass. Its not formal. The colors are hot pink and orange.and Gerbera daisy and sunflowers are the flowers chosen. We’d like any orange and pink pictures of ceremony, flowers, decorations, centerpieces, and attire.

A: Sounds like it’s going to be fun and laid-back.

Here are some ideas:

* Put down a dance floor and hire a dj.
* Keep centerpieces organic and use your venue as inspiration. Use hot pink as your anchor color/central color and accent with the orange. With an outdoor reception, take your colors and accent them with the bright greens and yellows and browns in your surroundings.

A: The most beautiful and original cakes are done by Elegant Cheesecakes (they were featured on Oprah’s wedding show). I don’t know where you live, but if you have a bakery near you that can duplicate one of their designs, you might want to try that:

Q: WOW I WISH SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TOLD ME THIS …for my wedding cake ideas… brides looking to save money?
i was watching GMA the other day and this Lady got her wedding that she always dreamed of . it would have cost her more then 1,000 but she got it for under $100….

how you ask?
well she had a “fake ” cake made ( like the ones they use for display- with the decorations and all) , it looks and feels like a real cake… she even had pics of them cutting it.

but then they just got a couple of full sheet cakes from sams club and when the servers took the “cake ” back to cut and serve it they used the sheet cakes
oops sorry i thought i posted it under weddings

A: Memories of cutting a fake cake? Fooling your guests into thinking they got a piece of the real thing? Why bother? Maybe they could give you fake gifts!

Q: wedding shower cake ideas?
Any unique or fun messages to put on a wedding shower cake?
The cake is honoring both the bride and groom (not just a bridal-cake).
It will be a full sheet cake from a local bakery grocery store, so the design will be simple.
They don’t do a lot of custom decorations so it will be white icing with black piping along the edges (the color/them is black and white).
So….any text ideas?
ummm did i add that this should be affordable, and that there are no bakeries where im at….Like i said, the only thing we have is a grocery story bakery…so imagine Wal-Mart type bakery. I doubt they would do special chocolate squares lol
Also, the black icing is just dyed black, and there are no flavors added to it. I’ve tried it.

A: I’ve never seen a shower cake that had text on it. Most of them were a pretty cake like this
http://i.timeinc.net/recipes/i/recipes/su/06/12/candy-cake-su-1559182-l.jpg
http://www.allindiaflorist.com/imgs/cake10_1.jpg
but nothing that was actually designed.

Usually the colors are the bridal colors or the theme of her wedding. For example, my cousin’s wedding colors were mocha and latte so due to the coffee theme, we had tiramisu for her cake.

I would suggest excluding black piping. Usually that tastes like licorice and tastes terrible. I would suggest a checkerboard pattern using Ghirardelli Squares.

Use flavors to make it pretty. Blueberries, strawberries, something like that. If that’s just impossible for these guys, stick with a typical wedding design like bells or doves. Or one of their birthday party couples–Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Price Charming, Disney’s Robin Hood with the foxes.

Q: a homemade wedding? ideas please?
so me and a couple of my friends are going to play wedding this weekend, but we are going all out lol. does anyone know some websites that tells you what a real wedding needs? and then some websites or ideas on how to make a cute wedding cake and decorations and maybe a place where i can make some quick invites? it would be a huge help. haha and ik we are a but old for this but we all thought it would be a fun idea

A: Check out the party section in Wal Mart. The Martha Stewart line has a lot of ready made wedding stuff (invites; decorations; cake toppers, flower basket & pillow, etc…everything you’ll need for an instant wedding).
Ideas for cake: Use cupcakes or pick a small cake up at your local bakery and you can add a cake topper!

Find these items in craft stores:
Use silks for your wedding flowers tied w/nice satin ribbon. Use tulle for the veil, or find veils that are already made.

HAVE FUN!!!

Q: Does anybody know of any cheap wedding ideas?
I am on a short leashed budget and still want to have a decent wedding. If anybody has any ideas on cakes, catering, decorations, photography, dresses etc. please let me know! :) Also any great websites would be much appreciated as well :-) Thanks!

A: For the dress, I absolutely love David’s Bridal and their $99 sales which always seem to be going on.
Target also has a new line of wedding gowns for a very reasonable price, I think all of them are under $200.
You can always rent one too, my mom’s got eaten by mice in our garage anyhow!
For the cake, you can search the internet for the basic idea of what you like, then take a picture of it to your local Walmart and they will recreate it for you!
It is really awesome, and they do amazing things!
A fraction of the price of any other cake.
College students can come in really handy too.
If you have a cullinary school near by, check out if you could get a senior student or a recent grad to make you your dream cake.
They aren’t used to getting much money, so they would be cheap and it would give them experience and exposure for their portfolio.
Photography majors could also help out.
Tons of wedding photographers have never gone to school for photography, but a college kid would know all of the latest tricks of the trade- all of that crazy technology now-a-days!
They would be cheap since they need exposure and experience too.
You could even request to see samples of their work to make sure you are safe.
They would be thrilled for the opportunity.
Don’t use a familly member or close friend for the photographer though, too many things could screw up that situation!
Decorations are easy.
Making them yourself would be your cheapest way to go.
For tablecloths, you could either rent them from a party supply store or have someone hem some lovely fabric of your choice from a fabric store nearby.
Centerpieces?
I always love creative candle arrangements, and you could even make those your wedding favors for the guests.
Go to walmart, the dollar tree, or a cheap craft store and get some glass dishes to fill with a little water, fill the very bottom with some marbles or glass beads, then get floating candles to light in the center.
I’ve seen square mirrors set underneath the centerpiece and even little christmas lights look really cool to just drape around the whole arrangement.
Flower centerpieces are great too.
You could get some fresh flowers from a local farmer or from your farmer’s/saturday market, or use fake ones from walmart or the craft store.
Get a few of your favorite blooms and set them in a skinny clear vase that is filled with colored water, glass marbles, pebbles, pennies, beans, whatever.
Everyone love candy, you could buy a few bags of m&m’s, red hots, dinner mints, anything small, and sprinkle them around the centerpiece or even the whole table for cute, edible decor.
I have also seen picture frames with pictures of one or both of the couple.
You could use pictures of when you were growing up at different stages at all of the tables, or your engagement pictures, or even pictures from the wedding that were developed before the reception if that is possible.
With this idea you can use frames you already have, get cheap matching ones, buy a hodge podge from a second hand store, borrow some from a friend, anything goes!
It is a very personal touch to have pictures out, wherever you display them.
I don’t really know anything about catering, but you can always recruit friends and family to help prepare any food you want present on your big day.
If you shop for your food at the store, make sure to check the unit price of each item to get the best deal.
Some stores will give you a discount if you talk to the manager ahead of time and are getting a big quantity.
Also, ask a manager about any future sales that they could tell you about, sometimes they can’t tell you though.
Make sure your food won’t go bad before the day you need it.
My friend had a reception with only cinnamon rolls and hot cocoa, and everyone loved it.
She had friends each bring a few dozen of their favorite recipe, some orange rolls, with nuts, with raisens, with chocolate frosting, with extra cinnamon goo!
We made the hot cocoa as it was needed in three big fancy crockpots that were lended to us.
It is amazing how creative you can get and how fun it can be when you are forced to stick to a budget.
Have fun and remember that it is your day to have what you want, no one else gets to criticize your choices!
Don’t worry too much what everyone will think or what is expected from you, just stay pleasant and all will go wonderfully.
Good luck and congratulations!
Best wishes!

Q: Anyone have Classy fifties wedding ideas?
I need ideas for our 50s themed wedding. We want it to be more 50s Hollywood, not a sock hop. I need ideas on things like decorations, cakes, wedding and reception locations, etc. I am wearing a vintage wedding dress and I have 50’s style dresses picked out for the bridesmaids. This will be an October wedding in St. Louis, MO with close to 200 guests.
I am still looking for a venue, something other than a normal reception hall, any ideas?

Also, I have not chosen a bridesmaids dress yet. Below are a few dresses I have found that I like but I am really looking for a dress with a neckline similar to Olivia Newton John’s top in this picture: http://www.allmoviephoto.com/photo/1978_grease_043.html

http://www.bestbridalprices.com/bari-jay-bridesmaid-dress-284-p-184.html
I do not really want the Hollywood side of things to take over the 50’s theme. We are looking for ideas for the fifties hollywood lifestyle. We are not really looking to have anything to have hollywood written on it.
I have a band that dresses like they are in the fifties and they play only fifties music.

The cake is three-tiered white squares with a stair case that wraps around. The accent colors are grey and light pink.

A: You can Use a classic, like a old-style Rolls Royce, as your getaway car. Use a red carpet as the runner either for your aisle or in your reception room. You could do a cigar and brandy bar for the men (and the women to of course – but typically it was done for the men back then). You can decorate the table with feather boas, cigars, long cigarette holders, etc. http://www.weddingbee.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/inspira03.jpg

Q: Wedding cake for a mexican wedding?
Looking for decoration ideas for the cake I am to make for my brother’s reception. They are getting married in Cancun and the reception theme is following that theme. Thanks!

A: Mexican wedding cakes add to the fun and romance of your Mexican theme wedding. Colorful and creative, Mexican cakes will provide a tasty addition to your wedding fiesta!
Traditionally, Mexican wedding cakes are tropical fruitcakes (filled with goodies such as pineapple chunks, grated coconut, and sliced pecans) soaked in rum. Some forego the rum and use a milky sauce. This fruitcake doesn’t have to be heavy. You could have a regular cake made with tropical fruits such as pineapple and coconut.
Another idea would be to ditch the fruit altogether, go with a traditional wedding-cake flavor for your Mexican wedding cakes such as lemon or chocolate, and decorate the cake with a lively or romantic Mexican theme. Whether you go with a tropical fruitcake or not, it’s nice to have a tier or two in alternate flavors. This is even more important if some of the tiers are soaked in rum or made with a flavor that many are allergic to, such as chocolate.
When considering the colors for your Mexican cakes, you may want to use traditional Mexican color schemes, vibrant colors that are highly contrasting. Weddings in Mexico are filled with vibrant colors, and the bridesmaids and guests often wear red. For your Mexican theme wedding, don’t be afraid to experiment with primary colors and make a bold statement with your wedding cake and decorations on your wedding day.
However, if bright colors aren’t your style, be aware that white is also a large part of a traditional Mexican wedding. The flowers that fill the church or home are often white, and the bride traditionally wears white. You could also have a white wedding cake with a bright accent such as red chili peppers or roses for your Mexican theme wedding.
For ideas for your Mexican wedding cakes, consider the pictures that come to mind when you think of Mexico. For example, many associate Mexico with colorful mosaics, tropical flowers, chili peppers, jungle, parrots, senoritas and senoras dressed in lace and ruffles, flamenco and red roses, sombreros, silver, turquoise, terra cotta, romance, beautiful fountains, fiestas, enchanting desert sunrises, and romantic sunsets on the beach.
In Mexico, Mexican wedding cakes come in unique designs, often with religious and cultural symbols. Mosaic patterns (made with icing) covering square cakes are also popular. Here are a few wedding cake ideas that use a Mexican theme.
Gold “coins” (suggesting the Mexican custom of the groom giving the bride thirteen gold coins to show his trust and commitment).
Marzipan or gum paste molded into shapes such as chili peppers or miniature fans and sombreros.
A miniature mariachi-band cake topper.
A white lasso or string of rosary beads placed around the bride and groom cake toppers (borrowing from Mexican wedding customs).
Silver or terra-cotta colored pillars (cake separators) for a tiered cake.
A lush garden of tropical flowers between each pair of tiers.
A cascading cake stand featuring a waterfall of blue fondant (candy paste), live orchids, and marzipan parrots.
Senora and senior figurines for a bride and groom cake topper.
Ruffles and lace created with icing to represent a Mexican wedding dress.
Tropical flowers in your wedding colors.
If you are considering tropical flowers for your wedding-cake design, here are a few of the many species that grow abundantly in Mexico:
Hibiscus
Heliconia
Orchid
Prickly-pear cactus flower
Poinsettia: red or white, perfect for a winter Mexican theme wedding.
Rose
Tropical fruits that grow in Mexico, such as banana, pineapple, papaya, mango, and coconut, could be arranged on your wedding reception cake table. A fun grooms cake could be shaped like a sombrero, a flamenco guitar, or anything Mexican the groom likes.
Mexican wedding cakes can be a fun, colorful additon to any Mexican theme wedding. By using your imagination and the creative inspiration of Mexico and its culture, your wedding cake will become the unique centerpiece of your wedding reception.
Best Wishes!!!!!
