Q: Dual Banded Wedding Cake Design – Any ideas?
I have to make a wedding cake that is two toned horizontally. Any ideas on how to get a clean line that doesnt bleed?
The client wants a buttercream cake
A: fondant
Q: Does anyone know a good site for wedding cake design ideas?
A: search for colette peters she is on the food network and she also has several books out. she wonderful. you are sure to find a beutiful cake on there from her. thats where i found mine.
Q: Does anyone know where I can get ideas for wedding cake designs?
My mom is making my wedding cake because there will only be 5 people, including myself and my fiance. I don’t want anything fondant, but I want it to be relatively simple. I want some pink in it as well, but if I could find a design, I could change the colors, to colors I want. My mom took cakedecorating years ago, but I just don’t want to do anything too advanced. I want small cakes, a 2-tier, so we can freeze the top one. I don’t care if it’s square or round, but I kinda like the square cakes. I am including a link below of the first cake I picked out, but it’s fondant, so I decided against it unless I can’t find anything else. I’m getting married the first week of July, so I need to get an idea quick!

A: I had my wedding cake home made as well (just recently!) The design I picked out was from a website like the one you provided, and I just made alterations suiting my needs. Even though the one you initially picked has fondant, you can always alter that. The cake design I chose had fondant as well, but there’s a trick to make a “fake fondant” type of look. Use decorative icing to ice your cake. Once the icing has crusted just a little bit (about 5 mins or so), lay a paper towel down and rub gently in a circular motion. This will smooth the icing out completely, and while it won’t have the flat thick look of fondant, it will definitely give more professional appeal to your cake.
You can email me through my profile if you like, I’ll send you a picture of what my cake looked like.
Q: What are some different ideas for wedding cake designs?
A: i wouldnt put too much money into the cake.
our wedding cake was all white with cream on the edges and surface that looked like lace. and we had real dark red roses.
i really wanted a white cake that was covered completley with white edable roses. that would of been soooooo cool and different. but no one in europe made this kinds of cakes.
we had our wedding there so we planned and bought everything there. but our cake turned out great. it matched my dress and flowers.
Q: I am planning on making my sister’s wedding cake with different flavored cupckes…any design ideas?
I’m thinking of chocolate, spice, carrot cake, and white.
A: Get pieces of Styrofoam cut into circles from 36″+ down to 4″ (for the top cupcake). If the cupcakes are 4″ in diameter cut the circles so there will be 4″ tiers……all the way around…..which means 8″ variations on the circles’ diameters……(36″-28″ -20″- 12″-4″). When stacked it should look like the shape of a traditional wedding cake. Practice with cardboard cut-outs first, so you can get the picture of the finished “platform”. You can spray-paint or drape the Styrofoam with something white……or silver…..
The more people that are at the reception….the bigger the “platform” for the cupcakes needs to be. It does NOT have to hold every single cup…..you can have an attendant at the cake and they can constantly “update” the missing pieces of cake that people eat. Try to pick a corresponding icing decoration to signify which flavor the cake is. The main icing on top could be a creamy white colored sour-cream/cream-cheese icing that would go well with any of the types of cakes you’ve chosen.
I hope you see what I’m trying to describe………e-mail me if you need clarification. One problem you may run into is that it takes two hands to undo a cupcake from its wrapper. Most reception food requires only a fork or a couple of fingers. Can you “pre-peel” the wrappers and still have them look nice?? Try different methods out on some of the family before the reception to see if very old people and very young kids can navigate a plate and a drink and a fork and a cupcake wrapper…..with nice clothes on. It’s a tough job to test cupcake etiquette…..but SOMEONE has to do it!!! Volunteers should be easy to find.

AND does anyone know if Coldstones Creamery would make a wedding cake?
If so that would be pretty freakin awesome!
A: I work for an ice cream shop not coldstone and we do make ice cream wedding cakes. before you decide to go with them ask alot of questions. I’ve been doing this for 15 years and can make cakes look like a picture and if I can’t I let the customer know up front. Also they probably aren’t usually in the business of delivering and setting up wedding cakes. getting your cake very cold with the help of dry ice is the key to it all. But your photo opportunity time is still very limited. Have a pretty cake for pictures. Some bakeries have dummy (display)cakes made from styro-foam they might rent to you. Then keep your ice cream cakes in the freezer and cut them before serving. Have your caterer check with the ice cream cake place so they know how to temper the cake so it can easily be cut and not be glop.
Q: is there a site were i can design my wedding cake?
i have this idea for a wedding cake but cant seem to find a site that will let me create it i dont want to have it ordered if it looks crazy please help and please leave mean comments at the door thank you
A: i found several different sites through google just now but none of them were very good.
however i do suggest finding a bunch of picture of cakes in which you like different things about them and take them to your cake maker and they should do a sketch of what you envision and show you before they make it..
or if you know someone who is artistic like a friend or family member (or your self) you can take it to them and work on several sketches and take them to your baker and then work from there with what you want.
i did this, but i did the sketches myself and they look quite good. sorry i couldn’t find you a good website but i hope my ideas will help you.
Q: I need help designing a wedding cake for a friend. Any ideas?
Here’s the deal. She had planned to have a nice but cheap wedding. But then her car broke beyond repair, and now she needs to buy a new one. With the new car payments she is unable to pay for the wedding. She can’t put the wedding at a later date either, because her grandmother has cancer and she (friend) has to have the wedding before she (grandmother) passes on.
What they are planning on doing is basically skip on the church and priest and go to the lawyers with a white dress from Walmart or something. And have a potluck after party.
As I do have (minimal) experience with making cakes, I offered to make the wedding cake. She sent me a picture of the cake she had wanted and asked if I could make it with a few variations since she didn’t like the flowers. Here are my ideas so far along with the original cake.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o255/Ateba-kuns/weddingcakes.jpg
If you have any suggestions for how I can improve my ideas please tell me.
The blue on the bottom is a fondant ribbon that she said she wanted. I changed the color because she isn’t really a “pink” type of girl.
A: The ribbon on the photo she sent you is actually a satin ribbon…you can put a satin ribbon on fondant and it doesn’t get greasy…if you want to put a real ribbon on buttercream you have to use waxed paper and an iron to make the ribbon greaseproof, or put tape on the back of the ribbon.
Anyhow, the ideas with the drop strings are a little tricky to do…they would need to be royal icing if you’re covering the cake in fondant and that will make it very brittle. If you go with the drop strings, be sure you practice them in advance and also take a piping bag of royal icing with you when you go to deliver the cake, to repair any of the strings that have broken off.
I think if you’re going to do fondant, then you should pick a design that doesn’t look like an old-fashioned buttercream cake. So the top two rows look the best to me…either just the cake with the ribbon (and it can be tricky to roll and cut a fondant ribbon long enough to go around the cake and to put it on without it stretching out of shape), or maybe a monogram on the middle tier, if the tiers are taller than the ones in the picture she sent you. It’s harder to do a plain cake than one with a lot of decorations though, because there’s no way to cover trouble spots. Some geometric cutouts would look nice…do them in white and stick them on the cake, then paint them with pearl dust. Stripes are also a nice look on a fondant cake….you could do alternating pearl and white stripes with a real ribbon around the bottom edges.
Q: wedding shower cake ideas?
Any unique or fun messages to put on a wedding shower cake?
The cake is honoring both the bride and groom (not just a bridal-cake).
It will be a full sheet cake from a local bakery grocery store, so the design will be simple.
They don’t do a lot of custom decorations so it will be white icing with black piping along the edges (the color/them is black and white).
So….any text ideas?
ummm did i add that this should be affordable, and that there are no bakeries where im at….Like i said, the only thing we have is a grocery story bakery…so imagine Wal-Mart type bakery. I doubt they would do special chocolate squares lol
Also, the black icing is just dyed black, and there are no flavors added to it. I’ve tried it.
A: I’ve never seen a shower cake that had text on it. Most of them were a pretty cake like this
http://i.timeinc.net/recipes/i/recipes/su/06/12/candy-cake-su-1559182-l.jpg
http://www.allindiaflorist.com/imgs/cake10_1.jpg
but nothing that was actually designed.
Usually the colors are the bridal colors or the theme of her wedding. For example, my cousin’s wedding colors were mocha and latte so due to the coffee theme, we had tiramisu for her cake.
I would suggest excluding black piping. Usually that tastes like licorice and tastes terrible. I would suggest a checkerboard pattern using Ghirardelli Squares.
Use flavors to make it pretty. Blueberries, strawberries, something like that. If that’s just impossible for these guys, stick with a typical wedding design like bells or doves. Or one of their birthday party couples–Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Price Charming, Disney’s Robin Hood with the foxes.
Q: Anybody know where I can find black and white cake designs for my wedding?

Q: Snowflake Wedding cake with Buttercream?
I’m getting married in December and I’m looking for a snowflake wedding cake design using buttercream frosting. The bakery I want to go with doesn’t use fondant. So, I’m trying to search online for ideas to bring to them, but I can’t seem to tell which cake is used with fondant, which is used with buttercream. Is it the edges of the cake? Round/smooth edges = fondant?
A: Yes, rounded edges are fondant. Although buttercream can easily be recreated to get the same look without the bad taste and texture of fondant.
Some examples of buttercream:

Q: Tell me about your dream wedding cake?
I’m a pastry chef in training & I really like designing wedding cakes. I feel like making one this week. Any ideas?
A: For some reason I love wedding cakes.Mine came from a grocery store bakery in 1967. Wow has pastry come a long way or what! How about a 4 tier square offset with white fondant icing. Pretty diamond shapes in the icing all the way around and silver tiny balls set just right where the diamonds meet and pretty gum paste flowers your choice of colors. Now I live in Oklahoma city so when it is ready let me know. LOL.
