Q: will a wal mart or brookshires bakery make a wedding cake from a design that is not their own?
I am wanting to buy a wedding cake design book but more than likely im going to either walmarts or brookshires bakery to actually get it made for when i renew my vows next halloween.Ive looked through their designs and didnt think like the look of them with my colors of black and purple.Or is it much more expensive just to find someone who makes them on their own?

A: Wal-Mart will not do custom designs. Brookshires will only customize flowers/colors. You still have to get one of their designs. I would suggest looking at your local culinary school for a pastry student near graduation that would like a design to put in their portfolio.

Q: Dual Banded Wedding Cake Design – Any ideas?
I have to make a wedding cake that is two toned horizontally. Any ideas on how to get a clean line that doesnt bleed?
The client wants a buttercream cake

A: fondant

Q: Where can I get a low price or free wedding cake design software program?
I am getting married next year and I am wanting to design my own cake. I found software from topplestone but I don’t want to spend $70. Where can I get software similar to this cheaper? Here is the website to the program that I found. http://www.weddingcakedesignpro.com/

A: I do believe that that sofware is primarily for the use of cake designers. I’m not sure how it’ll help you as a bride, any better than looking up designs online and sketching out your dream cake.

My opinion is that you don’t need it. And in an answer to your question you won’t find it cheaper or free, unless it’s pirated and thus illegal. Software of this kind is basically exclusively for cake decorators and I’m not sure why they’re marketing it to brides…

Like I said check out CakeCentral.com for tons of pictures, TheKnot.com or heck even Google images. You’ll do just fine, just print off those you like and bring them to your baker. S/he’ll draw up a sketch based on what you like.

Q: What cake design do you think would look pretty for a February wedding?
My mom wants to make my wedding cake. I want a 3 tiered hexagonal cake. Our colors are navy blue, white, and silver. I hate fondant, so she’s using icing. I don’t really know what kind of design I want. I looked on The Knot and couldn’t really find anything that I liked. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A: I love the hexagon idea.
And I also agree that you shouldn’t use fondant.
Not only does it taste gross but it also sweats in cold.
February is usually a cold month, so you really wouldn’t want that.
I say do the diminishing look.
Do more twisties on the bottom and less on the top. Have them descend as the tiers go up.
Or just have it sleek wth a ribbon on the bottom.

Q: Where can I find a website to design a wedding cake?
Where can I find a website to design a wedding cake virutally for free?

A: http://www.brides.com/planning/cakes/createacake/

Q: Any programs to design wedding cakes besides Wedding Cake Design Pro?
Wedding Cake Design Pro is a 50 dollar program to design cakes.

A: I found a web site for The Happy Cake Company that allows you to build your cake online… I don’t know if it will show you a picture I didn’t go through the whole process but I thought it might help.

Also I included a few sites with pictures of cake designs, good luck!

Q: I need help choosing a wedding cake design- can you help?
I would like a simple 3-tier cake- most likely white or ivory color. The cake topper will be the Precious Moments Bride and groom. I was thinking of putting some flowers in between the tiers and around the cake topper. I need to find a picture of an elegant cake so I can show the baker exactly what I am talking about. Can anyone help and send me links to some cakes?

Q: Can anyone help me find a Bakery website that has southwestern design wedding cake photos? For Daughter HELP!?
My Daughter wants a wedding cake with a southwestern design. I have not been able to find one website with the thousands of wedding cakes that has them. That is the only Theme I guess they forgot about. We cant even find the invitations. Appreciate any help. Thanks

A: First I looked at ideas for Southwestern theme parties. Suggestions were cakes shaped like sombreros or cactus. Check these out…

Sombrero cake

The cactus cake in the middle is especially awesome. It looks so real and I love how they placed it in a terra cotta pot saucer! You could do a bigger version of this cake. My other other ideas are that she could do a regular tiered cake, but bring the bakery a photo of a southwestern design she likes (I mean that jagged, “stepped” thingy they do on borders…don’t know what it’s called, but you know what I mean!) She could ask the bakery to do a border of that around each tier in her colors. The other thing that would be cute is if she adds mini-pepper plants as garnish on the cake, in lieu of flowers. I tried to find a picture of the plant I mean, but I can’t (multi-colored baby peppers all growing on the same plant in a small pot). My grocery store sells them in the floral dept. They are adorable and would be really cute laid on the cake where people would ordinarily place real flowers!

Look what I found totally by accident, when I was looking for the pepper picture…

Ditch the stupid bells and the rainbow wedding ribbon (why this is listed as a “life-partner” cake topper I have no idea, because it has a rainbow ribbon? Anyway, cut that part off and it would certainly fit your theme.

One last thing, in regards to your invites. I don’t know what your budget is, but I had my invites done by an artist who stamps and hand-paints custom invitations. She did a tree for me and painted the leaves in my wedding colors. She does beautiful work and I was told by many it was the most beautiful invites they had ever seen. I know that when I got mine, she had an example of a cactus invite that she had done. I can’t find a pic of it on her site any more, but if you email her, I’m sure she could send you a sample pic of it. You could also make something similar yourself if you guys are “crafty”. Here is the link to her site…

You could also take a normal party invitation and turn it into a wedding invitation. Here are some that I found…

If you don’t like those, just do a search for “southwest invitation”. That’s what I did and pages of options came up.

You know, I was just thinking that some of those little peppers would look really cute interspersed in you daughter’s bouquet of flowers or even made up as an entire bouquet by itself. Hope some of this helps! Enjoy the planning…it’s half the fun!

Q: Does anyone know a good site for wedding cake design ideas?

A: search for colette peters she is on the food network and she also has several books out. she wonderful. you are sure to find a beutiful cake on there from her. thats where i found mine.

Q: wedding cake design… what do you think?
http://www.cakesbydesign.cc/SterlingRose.html

i just love this design. i have decided to replicate it, slightly modified, for my wedding cake.
wired ribbon on top and some cascading down the side.
instead of roses i was going to use gerberas and a few other smaller flowers (gerberas are my main wedding flower)

and smooth icing not imbelished.

what do you think?

A: I LOVE it! I love the colors and pearls at the bottom! And the ribbons too! It will be a big hit I’m sure! That will look great in your wedding pics!

Congrats!

Q: How far in advance do we need to design the wedding cake and have a tasting?
I am getting married on April 17th, 2009, little over 6 months left now. I think I remember the catering hall manager tell us that we are supposed to have our tasting and design session right about now. When did you do yours?

A: havnt had my own wedding yet, but been maid of honor in my sisters. you can start the taste testing at anytime, and take as much time as you would like to order your design. the only thing to keep in mind is that the sooner IS the better though. if you want to find that perfect cake for your special day, then it will take some time to go test out a bunch of diferent places and bakeries. and there are soo many cake designs out there that you dont want to be rushed in your desicion. also, many bakeries suggest at least a months in advance notice and order, so that really only leaves you with 5 months to decide what you would like.
hope this all helps!

Q: Wedding cake design…?
This is the design I have chosen for our wedding cake, it will be a pumkin spice cake with a caramel apple filling and cream cheese frosting under the fondant.

do you think it goes well with the spanish garden vibe?
Not a fall wedding just love pumpkin spice cake…otherwsie everything is primarily centered around the spanish garden that the wedding and reception is held in.

A: Very much so! Both are gorgeous!!!!

PS, I hate cake, but if I was at your wedding I truly think I might try your cake, the flavors sound awesome!

Q: Wedding Cake design suggestions?
Hi everyone,
I’m planning my wedding for this December and I haven’t really given any thought to a cake! I’m really open to anything, traditional or modern, any flavor. Chocolate is yummy but not a requirement. :-)

Here’s some background info to inspire you:
My wedding colors are pale pink and black- the 4 bridesmaids will be wearing black satin dresses with pale pink sashes or wraps. I’m letting them choose the style of dress they want- strapless, halter, etc, so they can all be comfortable and happy!

So, anything that would encorporate the two wedding colors would be fine by me. Our tastes in general tend to lean towards sleek, minimalist, and contemporary, as opposed to ornate or flowery. (A flower design could be cool, just wouldn’t want it to be too old-timey). Basically, I feel like it’s just a cake and cakes are for enjoying, so as long as it looks decent for the pictures and tastes awesome, it’s cool!

Thanks so much in advance.

A: As a cake decorator if you came to me with these parameters I’d suggest a very pale pink cake with black accents such as dots and black open weave ribbon instead of icing borders and that the ribbon border would be thinner for each smaller layer with pale pink flowers or initials with some flowers and the thinest of black ribbon draping down to accent the top layer. You might want a few petals or flowers to highlight the bottom layers but not a lot.

Q: Im looking for a wedding cake and design, any suggestions?
http://www.wilton.com/images/recipes/bgimpression.jpg

this is the kind of wedding cake we are looking for not those modern looking cakes. We dont like those. We are looking for a nice design and a cool cake. A big one!

A: let me send you my future mother in law…

and my future mother in law wants fancy cake with fountains in it…. she makes wedding cakes ..and she wants fountains…

your style isn’t my taste , but what you can do is look in a search engien under “cake fountains” and then you will see a bunch of cakes that have that type of style …

Q: Can the Wallace Scroll design on a wedding cake be done with buttercream icing?
I’m looking for a wedding cake that I like, and I wanted a vine-like design, but when I went to the cake shop that I’m going to order at she said that things like that can only be done in fondant. Fondant is much more expensive and I don’t have the extra money for it, as this is a kind of last minute wedding. So I was wondering if anyone is framiliar with cake making- can this design actually be done with the buttercream icing, and if not, can you link me some pictures of vine-like or scroll-like designs that can be done with buttercream icing? Thanks!

A: I answered your other question too- I thought you meant that she couldn’t make the cake that smooth using buttercream. I didn’t realize you meant the scroll work. In that case… RUN don’t walk from this place. It is absolutely laughable for her to say that can’t be done. If you take that picture to 100 other bakeries, not one of them will tell you it can’t be done in buttercream.

EDIT

In fact, I just looked at your other question and the picture again. That scrollwork is not done in fondant at all. It most likely is royal icing. Royal icing is piped out of a bag and holds intricate designs very well. It dries hard. Your cake should be able to be frosted in a buttercream, and then detailed with royal icing.
