Q: How do i become a wedding cake designer?
This is for a school project and I need all the information on wedding designers.

A: You would need to go to culinary school with subjects that focus on cake decorating. Then, after you graduate you will need to practice with a baker as an apprentice.

Q: I would like to become a wedding cake designer, I have made wedding cakes for a couple of my Friends and they?
think I should do this professinally my question is where and how do I start out I would also like this do be a homebase project.

A: Proof of the cake is in eating it! If you satisfy more customers there could be continuing demand for your service and eventually you can be what you desire!

Q: do you no how much a wedding cake designer makes?
its for a project and google wont tell me.

A: That depends on how long the designer has been doing it and how good they are.
Most make about average wages of any other skilled worker. $18 to $20 an hour. Some who own specialty shops will charge $50 an hour but that covers more than their own time. An established shop with a good customer base can make great money.
An unknown or new shop may charge $200 to $300 for a cake that would cost you $1000.00 or more by a well known designer.

Remember the cost is not just time, it ingredients, ovens, pans, rack, tools, insurance, helpers, rent, water, electricity, phone, advertising, Workman’s comp, and lots more.

Q: Wedding Cake?
How much did you spend on your wedding cake? How many tiers was it? I want to get my cake down by a professional cake designer. I want at least a 4 tier cake. Did you use a private wedding cake designer or Publix, etc.?

A: I am having a 4 tier cake for 165 ppl….at $1.60 a slice which equals to $264. My cake will be done by a private baker and this cake is identical to the one I wanted from a popular baker for $412!

This woman is a retired professional baker….she does them out of her house for a fraction of the price….I received her information from the owner of the banquet hall that I am holding my reception at.

Q: I want to work as a part-time job by working for a proffesional wedding cake designer……Could you help?
I am 15 years old. But I love decorating cakes, and I am willing to learn. Is there any way I can work a part-time job? Or it doesn’t work that way? Thank you :)

A: choice r very limited since ur still in high school. i recommend u to look 4 a normal part time job first

Q: what is a wedding cake designer?

A: Gay.

Q: what will I need to learn to become a wedding cake designer?

A: I’m not quite sure but I would think that you would need to go to a pastry school. You would need to learn how to bake cakes, roll fondant, make flowers out of frosting, etc. You need to have an artistic eye and be creative. I would also think that you would need steady hands for detailing.

Q: what skills and abilities are needed for being a wedding cake designer?
help me please.

A: to be a wedding cake designer you have to have an eye for balence and an eye that sees little imperfections.
you’ll need to know how to bake cakes and make an array of delectible fillings to go inside. you’ll need to be able to make something that suits your bride/groom perfectly and make it taste as good as it looks.
you got to have hands that can stay steady when you are piping on little designs on the fondant that you just covered the cake with.
you must be able to see how things are put together in order to make the intricate flowers such as the most poupular romantic rose.
it takes alot to be a wedding cake designer. and it will take alot of work to become one.
but you can do it!
best of luck

Q: Who is the most exquisite and exclusive cake designer in the world?
I am planning someone’s wedding and I am trying to find a top wedding cake designer. Not just normal pretty cakes but I’m talking about cakes the size or a room with detail down to a the ‘T’ which costs thousands. Anyone know of any brilliant cake artists or have heard of any because the ones I researched on the internet are “alright” but they don’t blow my mind away.
If you’ve seen the movie called The Perfect Man and in the credits they show you how all the cakes were made, something like that!!!

A: I know Sylvia Weinstock is exclusive and expensive, although I don’t know how “mind blowing” her cakes are. You’ll have to check her out for yourself. She’s on the wedding shows all the time.

Q: How do you become a wedding cake designer?
I have a dream of opening a chic store that sells only wedding cakes. I’ve played around with fondant, icing, etc. and have made some pretty creations. I would like to take it to the next level and I see many of the best designers have something referred to as their Master’s in Cake Design (or something worded similarly).

I know there are many private institutions that have pastry, baking, bread, etc. courses, but I’m wondering, what is the quicket, least inexpensive route to take to learn this art?

A: The quickest, cheapest route would either be to get a job at a bakery and learn it there, or, go to a community college with a culinary program. The problem with the community college is they’ll just cover the basics of cake design/decoration. You may want to go to a culinary school that specializes in this. However it will cost you lots of $$.

Also, consider getting ACF Certification in baking. The good culinary schools are ACF (American Culinary Federation) accredited. When you graduate, you get automatic certification either as a cook or pastry chef. This will be the basic certification levels. There are higher levels one can obtain through the ACF.

Q: what type of post highschool edu. will you nedd to become a wedding cake designer?

A: Your best bet would be to take a Pastry Arts major at a Culinary Arts school, or take Culinary Arts/Pastry Arts courses at your local Community College if they have a cooking program.

Q: Tips on transporting wedding cake long distance?
we are geeting married in TN- but live in Chicago…our wedding cake designer said we should search for a nice size styrofoam cooler and they would provide the ice packs.
i was thinking maybe dry ice? have the cake in the box…dry ice around it and all inside of a cooler.
any ideas?
(the cake will be covered with rolled fondant- so it will be nice and sealed….)

A: Another thing you can do is to buy some carpet padding and put it in the back of your car. When you place the container on top it will help stabilize it during a car trip.Try to cover the container with a towel or blanket-keepit out of the sunlight if possible. Keep the car cool.Try not to get the cake wet if you are going to use ice packs. With the ice pack idea, you could do that, but I would suggest to first place the cake in one container and then place it in another larger container, the outside container holding the ice packs. If you are getting married the day after you arrive, you don’t need to refrigerate the cake, just keep it in a cool place if possible. The fondant does keep it nice and sealed, you are right. The cake will taste fresh because the fondant does keep it sealed. If you absolutely have to, the cake may have little beads of moisture on it.Don’t worry,it is just moisture from the fondant. You can soak it up with the corner of a paper towel, or just let it dry.But not necessary to refrig it overnite. Anyway,Good Luck.and CONGRATS to the bride and groom!BEST WISHES!

Q: What did you love about your wedding cake?
I’m a newbie cake designer and I’d love to know what it is people loved and hated about their wedding cakes….

A: I loved the fact that my cake was UNIQUE and designed for our wedding exclusivly.

I went to many bakers and they had portafolios of standard cakes and yiou had to choose from their options… like everyone else, and I hated that.

I had another baker that never returned calls and cancelled appointments.. and I hated that, so I fire their services.

My baker, he paid SPECIAL attention to us and did not treated us like “just another wedding”. he always answered calls and emails promptly, was courteous and very professional.

What I liked the most about our baker was that he was able to accomodate my wants and needs and was able to see my vision of the cake and with his artistry put it together. I was beautiful and everyone was commented on it.

He accomodtaed all of our whimps too, I wanted certain flavors and fillers, I did not wanted any icing and wanted belgium chocolate cigarrellos to cover the cake (popular in europe, and barely seen in the USA). He order them from Belgium and designed my cake… I WAS AWESOME!

He made or cake from scratch, using organic ingredients and fresh fruit. Nothing came from a can, box or dried. It was absolutley fabulous. One of our tiers was carrot cake and they were griding the carrots by hand teh day before the wedding. It was completly splendid and the flavor was unbelievable.

Good luck
