Q: Looking for some ideas for a pink and black wedding with a western theme to it.?
My fiance ropes in rodeos and we are getting married in April. The colors are pink and black and I am wanting to add a little western theme to it without going over board. Everything is pretty casual but I am needing some ideas for a cake and flowers and decorations.
A: You could use little pieces of rope, and tie around the glasses to look like a little lasso. Use cowboy boots or horseshoes in your decoration. Have your invitations look like wanted posters. Use hay in your flower arrangements. Spurs, etc. It is really up to you, how western you want it, maybe ask him if there is anything he wants, use a little of everything. Congrats on your wedding!
Q: Money saving ideas for wedding?
I have posted before that I am planning a small wedding at a barn. Is there a way to steer away from a western theme with this type of atmosphere. Something country but not western. Any ideas about how to save money on dress , decorations, cake, food etc.?
A: Awwww…these are fun!
Yes,…to save money, do most of it yourself. Everything, but then I say this and some people don’t have a knack for flower design, and etc.
Ok…use whats available at the barn for decorations, incorporate haybales for the seating, find old quilts (borrow them if you have too) to fold neatly over each haybale to keep the straw from grabbing onto the ladies clothing.
Stack haybales up into squares for tables, unless there is old tables nearby, or an old picnic table…the haybales you can place plywood on the top for stability, cover with a pretty tablecloth, (we done this once)
Use a #3 Washtub for the punch. What you do is, buy one #3 Washtub, and a smaller pale, insert the smaller pale down into the bigger tub, fill the smaller one with the punch, and then fill the rest of the #3 tub with ice. (these can be found at a local farmers coop, or even Wal-Mart for a few dollars)
Punch is easy and cheap. Its all in what taste you want, it can be anything from frozen cubes of fruit juice and fruit, mixed with Gingerale, or freeze the whole concoction…so it will be slushy and cold when served.
Mason jars are cute for drink cups…
If its an old barn, look around for old rusty partially used rolls of barbwire, they make awesome wreathes, if they are decorated just right. With it being an old barn, find a farm nearby…lots of times they’ll have partially used rolls of barbedwire still hung on the post. See if they will let you have them. Decorate with your chosen colors and hang them around…..
You can buy lanterns from Wal-Mart for 4.56 each in the camping section, they are black, or green, or even red. Or paint them on your own, scatter then about throughout the barn, or buy one for each post, they will use citronella fuel, so your not only adding decor, but taking care of bugs in the process…..if its an evening wedding, which I think would work best for this…use loads of candles, they are cheap if you go to a dollar store.
Matter of fact, a dollar tree, or a dollar store you’ll be able to not only find the candle, but iron candle holders to go with them…(in most anyways) Use lots of candles to set a mood….
Be sure to have a barn cleaning before the wedding, you don’t want any unfound critters disrupting the nupts. Find someone that has cedar chips..or something similiar to put back down for a flooring and scatter about. The bottom of a barn is usually wet, so you don’t want mud everywhere….
Find someone that has some old cowboy boots that you could have. Either leave them as they are, or spray paint them your color, add styrofoam to the inside and have someone put a flower arrangement in them. They make cute table top settings or put somewhere around the barn.
For a dress, wear what you want, find a consignment shop nearby and have someone you know alter it to fit, or alter it yourself.
The Cake, well….do it yourself, or find one of those loving family members with a knack for cake baking and decorating do it for you. All it takes is a little imagination from you or the creator. As far as the Grooms cake goes, have someone make it for you too, they don’t tend to have to be as fancy as the wedding cake, just make it a cake of his choice. Whats his favorite cake?
Food….call in all your family, plan a menu that can be made ahead of time, and all of you do it yourself. Get online and look for simple wedding menues, but thats if your going to be doing food. Most weddings that are small, are nothing more than the cake, nuts/mints and punch….and be done with it. But if your looking for a country theme with the food, crab legs wouldn’t be a choice, ask around. If nothing else, make finger sandwiches, have homemade cookies/brownies and lemonade.
Sounds like fun…..but just use your imagination…browse the internet for ideas, and do the majority of it yourself. Be creative.
Q: How can I get the wedding cake I want made?
I am having a country-western wedding and found the perfect cake but it’s made in Arizona and the wedding is in FL. I have searched websites of FL bakeries and don’t see anything like it. Do I send a pic of it to one of the bakeries and ask if they can do it??? The wedding is in a year so they will have time to perfect it. (Possibly). Any ideas how this works? Below is the website that has the cake. It is the third cake up from the bottom center (Brown leather looking). I tried to past the pic but couldn’t. Thanks!!

A: Yep. That is what you do. Get a good picture, all sides if you need and present it to the Bakery and let them guide you from there.
Np payment until fully satisfied.
Great picture of it. It looks pretty simple without too much detail that a professional baker would mess up.
Q: Any ideas for a mixed race wedding?
I am a Shanghai born Asian musician and going to married a white Catholic guy in Dec. I have googled some western style weddings, but I really like to add some oriental detail to our wedding. Please share any ideas of a mixed culture wedding, such as the ceremony, reception, decoration, food, music, cake, wedding gown, bridesmaids’ dresses…
A: I envision a trendy Asian/Western fusion for the modern couple. Maybe a more traditional general setting with dashes of vivid color and flourishes of some of the following:
-origami favors
-take-out containers for cake boxes or for candy
-Asian character as a cake topper (i.e. happiness, etc.)
-chopsticks
-Asian soup spoon holding a delicate won ton or gyoza dumpling as an appetizer
-bamboo plants and orchid flowers for decorations
-paper lanterns
-paper fans
-chocolate dipped fortune cookies w/personalized fortune
-good luck coins as favors
-serve your meal on low tables with pillows for seating
-packets of tea/tea bags as favors
-bundles of incense tied with ribbon as favors
Q: I am using royal icing for a wedding cake, how do i store it before the wedding?
I want to do it two weeks before the wedding, but am not sure how to cover it….i am guessing, in a dark room in a cardboard box with a damp teatowel over the top of the box.
I am in australia, the western side, it is summer here now…average daily temps about 26.
Any ideas..??
thanks honeypea..the shop where i bought the icing said not to refridgerate it.
Thanks Aspasia…yes it is fruitcake. I thought I should ice it early to alllow for errors…ha ha…yep, not very confident, have had no training. thanks for the tips…good thoughts. jen
PS: the decorative icing is going to be cheating…am buying some lovely edible roses.
A: I’m doing my cake too! My fiances mother is making the fruitcake, her recipe is to die for.
I’ll be covering the cake in fondant rather than royal icing as it is much easier to cut, royal icing tends to shatter when you try to cut it. I live in Brisbane and have done several cakes, I usually make the cakes for my family a month in advance so that I can work on them at leisure.
The standard Australian fruitcake recipe does not need soaking in alcohol to keep, the recipe is designed to be baked months in advance and stored in less than optimal conditions. I usually store my cakes in one of those plastic storage crates, do not cover it with a damp cloth, I found it sends the cake moldy, If you can get ahold of some silica crystals store them With the cake to absorb moisture. (that’s whats in those little paper bags that you sometimes find in he boxes of things ike Porcelain dolls)
Q: Combination of both ideas? Please Help!?
I can’t seem to picture this in my head very well so please tell me what you think. We have been throwing around two major ideas either a western wedding or an autumn wedding. What do you think about this:
groom in black suit with white shirt, and a bolo tie and a cowboy hat
groomsmen in black pants and white tops with black cowboy hat and bolo ties
bride obviously a wedding gown
bridemaids black dresses
bouqets a general autumn mix
centerpieces of watering cans with fall flowers and/or min pumpkins
favor either personlized mason jars and/or carameled apples
drink hot cider, coffe, punch, and water
food either turkey dinner and cake or appetizers and cake
general decorations would be fall like.
Does that sound weird? Would you think it would look nice or tacky. Please be honest and if you have any suggestions that would be great. This planning thing is harder than I thought!
we are planning on about 250 for the reception. what about centerpieces that are just pumpkin themed?
A: I think it’s an interesting mix that will work out just fine. Right now, your themes seem really divisive. You need to find a way to work each of them into each other – I recommend mixing in some horeshoes in your decor. I like your centerpiece idea – but what about replacing the watering cans with old-fashioned campfire coffee pots or something? (Or even just metal buckets..just something a little less “girly” to make it more western!)
If you are decorating around the room (not just centerpieces), see if you can find a wooden wagon wheel to lean against a wall or table. Wagon wheels evoke that “down-home country” feel, and tie in both with autumn hayrides and old western travel!
You’ll be able to have a beautiful, cohesive wedding, you just need to add some ‘Western’ to the decor!
Q: Green and Brown wedding reception…creativity block?
Country Wedding: Western mixed with old style country.
Green apples, white daisies… maybe white snap dragons or a green spray.
mason jars for vases
brown table cloth?
thought about wrapping mason jars in paper bag material and topping off with a small green gingham ribbon?…
this is where im stuck. The cake has brown ribbon going around each white layer. anything to put around it to pull the green?
WHITE, GREEN, and BROWN. any suggestions, ideas, or experience would help. Thanks!
A: I LOVE green apples as decor, they’re cute and bright.
Jars for vases will work, but I wouldn’t wrap them in paper. It reminds me of moonshine when I see a jar wrapped in paper. Use gingham, hemp or that ribbon that looks like grass (the name escapes me at the moment but I know I have a drawer full of it somewhere).
You can also make tin can lanterns, which are super cute. Start saving up tin cans, paint them whatever color you’d like, and punch holes in them with a finishing nail. Add tea light and voila. http://loganbibby.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/garden-lanterns.jpg
As for the cake…add a green flower to add a little pop. You can also use candied pears or something of the like. http://www.bvweddings.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/green-and-brown-wedding-cake.jpg
http://www.lecakery.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/Round_Tier_Green_Brown_Ribbon.331222235_large.jpg
Cute table toppers would be rustic-looking lanterns, etc. http://www.weddingstyle.ca/Favor%20Western%20Mini%20Lantern.JPG
If you’re into ranching at all, silver horseshoe favors would be cute (or horseshoe jewelry for the bridesmaids).
Q: Remarring #3 Need Ideas Bay Area CA?
I have a dilemma and thought I would turn to you all for some suggestions. i am engaged it will be number 3 for the both of us… 3 is a charm…tee hee hee….anyways I have gone back and forth for a year about what kind of wedding I want, western, evening, boat, Vegas, civil. The civil is what would be easiest and least expensive but I really want the 4 kids to be involved, plus we have family that I think might disown us if we were to not have them:( UGH…now I am on overload. So here is what I am looking for, I want cheap but nice. I want all 4 of our kids involved, I don’t really care about the dress, cake, site etc.
Now get this I am suppost to get married in the Fall. I have a friend getting married in October and I don’t want to shadow her (it’s her firist) so I am thinking December but not a Christmas wedding. But, heck maybe an August wedding….lol
A: I think the easiest and cheapest would just be a classy wedding. Basic black and white. You can have that at any time of the year. And for your reception just take everyone to your favorite pub and have a fun night!
