Q: Will a round 3 tier cascading cake stand hold up square cakes? Or will it topple?
I want to order square wedding cakes and purchase a cake stand to put them on. Will the cascading ones from Michaels hold up these square cakes?
A: Most cake stands are rated by weight, the stand doesn’t care what shape your cake is so long as none of the cake extends over the side of the stand and the weight can be reasonably well centered. So long as none of the cake hangs over the edges and the cake is centered you should be more concerned with weight than shape.
Q: Would you use this project for wedding cake stand?
My grandmother has fine wedding china, and I was considering using them for this cake stand idea,
http://www.stylemepretty.com/2008/06/03/cake-stands/
Do you think this could be sturdy enough for a small 1-tier wedding cake? I was going to do 3 mini cakes (each enough for 12 servings) and sit them on these plates. Have you tried this? Did it work?
A: The problem is that the pieces need to be attached with epoxy, thus probably ruining the pieces for use separately afterwards.
Might be a better idea to pick up inexpensive pieces at a thrift store, etc. and then do them.

I would really appreciate any help please.
A: Check your local bakery, that will be your best bet…You can rent them, return them and save a ton of money…I did this with my cake, i did my own…It was beautiful i must say….
Q: Ever been to a wedding with a two-tier cake?
I’ve always assumed that I would have a three-tier wedding cake. That’s the size of most of the cakes in the pictures you see in wedding magazines and on theKnot. It seems like the standard size….some people go bigger, but 3 tier is about as small as they get for a tiered cake….
As it turns out, though, for budget reasons I’m having a cake that is the only tiered cake that can possibly be smaller than a 3-tier…a two-tier. I’m really nervous — will it look okay? We got a nice cake stand to put it on so that it will be a little taller (but not too tall…otherwise it would look even smaller!) but I’m still nervous about whether it will look okay.
Any advice? Have you seen two-tiered cakes? Did they look too small?
A: My niece was on an extremely tight budget and had a two-tiered cake. They did have a tiny piece on top that I didn’t consider a tier because they took it off and gave it to the bride & groom. The other tiers were much bigger and used those for cutting and serving to the guests. I thought the 2-tier was really pretty.
Q: how do i have 3 tier sponge cake?
is it possable to have a 3 tier sponge wedding cake ? and how do i get them to stand as a 3 tier .
A: You can have any type of cake you want .You can get a tier fastener from cake decoration shops that will hold it together down through the centre, or they might suggest something better.Ask an expert.
Q: Wedding cake Sponge and stand question?
I am doing a wedding cake for a family member and im having it 3 tier, i have seen the 3 different sizes of already iced sponges i want, but can i stick one on top of the other, or do i need a stand?? will it sink in? or do you think it can hold the weight, because on the pictures they all look like the layers are balancing on each other
A: I think it will be too heavy to have a 3 tier cake without something to support it. Go to a local bakery where they decorate wedding cakes, or somewhere you know that sells a comprehensive selection of cake decoration supplies (usually a large bakery will have such a section. There are plastic rounds you can buy, the size of your cake that you can lay on top of the cake before you add a layer, they will help to hold the weight. They’re inexpensive and you ice right over them. If you are able to find one at a bakery, someone will be there to help with advice as well.
Good luck!
Q: cake stand?
Hi,
I’m looking for a wedding cake stand. Our daughter is having cupcakes with a solid cake on top for cutting. I have seen a casa domani 4 tier stand on ebay (missed out on it), but can’t find one anywhere to purchase. We liked this one because it was “Chantilly Lace” pattern, however are interested in anything that may be similar. We can’t find more than 3 tiers of any ceramic type at the moment, and they just aren’t big enough. We are in Sydney and would love some feedback! Thanks.
A: Try looking at kitchen shops. House, David Jones, Myer etc may have nice cake stands. I would just look around. In the mean time, keep checking ebay.
This one finishes REALLY soon so have a look:

Q: Making my own wedding cake?
Ok, so I can cook/bake/make almost anything (as long as I have directions on some things). Well there probably will only be around 50 guests at our wedding (very small, but at lot of people can’t come bc they are out of state). I figured I could make my own wedding cake. Here’s my idea. I’m buying a 3 tier cake stand (the plates are different diameters, bottom one biggest, top one smallest). Well I’m wanting to make a 3 layer cheesecake for each tier. They are all going to be chocolate cheesecake and decorated with pink sprinkle sugar stuff and the top one the topper will be on w/a couple of pink lilies on it, and the bottom 2 tiers will just have pink lilies on them. It’s looking good in my head, but just wanting some people’s opinions on it. Any suggestons will be helpful. I’m doing them choc w/pink decor bc my colors are choc. brown & pink. I’m pretty confifent in my cooking abilities though. Thanks!
oh great idea about the ribbon! I’m going to do that too! =) (Oh and I will have plenty of time to make it, like I said its going to be a small wedding).
Oh and I’m going to have a practice run next month with my idea, just incase so I have plenty of time to order one, lol!
A: That sounds so good! Yes, and you can even maybe get your Mother-In-Law to be to help you! Good Luck!
Q: How to display wedding cake?
We have a favorite bakery that makes this most delicious cake in various round sizes (6″, 12″, 16″, etc) and also a 1/2 sheet cake.
However, this bakery does not do wedding cakes and tiers. Is there a way to order 3-16″ cakes and display them on varying heights of cake stands? Or will that look stupid?
We want to go with this bakery for a number of reasons: we love their signature cake, the cost is cut in half instead of ordering through caterers, it boosts business for our favorite local bakery.
Can anyone post pictures of separated tiered cakes online?
A: My wedding cake is going to be on cake stands at various heights and its going to look GORGEOUS! I’ll try to find my and add it for you.
Edit:
Here it is! I love it!

Q: angel food wedding cake?
i’m making a wedding cake for next month, its going to be angel food. i know angel food is difficult to use for a tiered cake, but she insists on it. i plan on making a 2 or 3 tiered cake (10 & 8 & 6 inches round, which is hopefully enough for her rough number of 50-100) but will the cake stand up better and taste the same if i make it in a regular pan? i know it needs a lot of room to rise, but i was thinking if i don’t fill the pan as stated in recipes, and make 2 of each, it might work (and be more sturdy). with it being more dense, will it change the flavor? any guidance will be appreciated very much. thanks
i just read something about using a flower nail to help with cooking the middle and keeping cakes from doming…could it be possible to use a few to make sure it cooks? i live in a very rural area and to get to a city with a specialty shop to get a heater core would be a long trip lol
A: You will be okay baking it in the wedding cake pans. For the 10 inch cake though you are going to need a core of some kind in the middle for the egg whites to cling to until they bake. Wilton sells a cake core or you might be able to use a metal funnel turned upside down. it needs to be something metal so it will cook the center.

I have baked angel food successfully in a 9X13 pan quite often. I have also baked it in loaf pans.

If i didnt list the type of cake or you would like to say a different type can you please add pictures if you can and is it ok if i have a sponge filling in my cake as most wedding cakes are fruit cakes and we dont like fruit cake. x
A: my favorite is modern with iced flowers and decorations. My wedding cake is 5 tiers, all differant sizes, blue, with little blue flowers and edible pearls and in white icing little saying are written all over the cake, like ‘Happiness, To Have and To Hold, Happily Ever After’ ,etc.
oh, and it can be wahtever filling you want. i like some fruit cakes, but i think i want Red Velvet, but i haven’t decided yet.
Q: What do you think of this wedding cake idea?
This is the wedding cake I’m thinking of, but 1. I don’t know if it would look good aesthetically, and 2. I don’t know how hard or easy it would be to make…
It’s an Independence Day wedding(next year, lol), so I was thinking 5 equal sized tiers, separated by short glass cylinders with white flowers in them. The layers would be star-shaped, but each one slightly skewed, so that the overall effect looks like a star column that got twisted. Three layers(1,3, & 5) would be white with a blue ribbon around the base and pearl blue swiss dots, and two layers(2 & 4) would be blue with a white ribbon around the base and pearl white swiss dots. Since it’s nearly impossible to find a star-shaped cake stand let alone one with equal sizing for all tiers, lol…in each crevice of the star formation would sit a single red rose…but only on four sides. Along one side, down the entire length of the cake would be a spread of white roses.
What do you think of this cake? Does it sound ok?………
How hard or easy does it seem to make? Any suggestions?
Thanks. (=
A: It sounds hard to make. Maybe you should just pay a shop to make it for you xD
Oh God, I thought it was going to be some crappy tacky idea but your idea sounds pretty good.
Q: Engagement Party Jell-O shot cake?
My boyfriend and I just got engaged. We are recent college graduates. We’re planning a very informal engagement party at our favorite bar for all of our college friends. It will be more of a Saturday night party scene than a typical “wedding-ish” engagement party.
My question is: People will be drinking alot and won’t want a traditional cake. I am trying to think of alternatives that still have a “wedding” flare. How about a 3 tiered cake stand filled with Jell-O shots. Have some whipped cream on the top so it looks decorated? I am looking for help with my Jell-O shot Cake idea and any other ideas you can think of! I want this to be fun, not stuffy!!!!
Wow–thanks for the input so far! Yeah, we will have a traditional engagement party with our families, too. After college, we left town for jobs out of state and want to get back to our alma mater where it all started for a night of fun with old friends. No gifts, no silly games…but maybe the world’s first ever tiered Jell-O shot wedding cake! haha Keep the ideas coming….
A: I think that sounds really fun actually. If you want to mix it up a bit you could have a tier of blow job shots with whipped cream on them (my favorite!) Plus think of the fun of taking them!
Edit: Huh…Y!A didn’t like my shot name….BJ shots then!
If you wanted actual cake you could do a jello-cake but add the alcohol. All you do is make a regular white cake, poke holes in it with a fork, mix up the liquid for jello shots, and pour it over the cake slowly until the cake doesn’t take any more of the liquid. Then frost with whipped cream! Yum.
They don’t go on vacation for July 4th if they don’t celebrate it
Besides, that was sort of the idea. We want a nice small wedding. The fewer the better!
Q: wedding ideas.. needing input
?
As far as the “cake” goes we are trying to decide Between a traditional 3 tiered cake, a small decorated round cake to cut then sheet cakes to serve or a three tiered cake stand with cupcakes.
We know we don’t want to do a dinner (it would not fit into the budget) so we are thinking of doing finger foods. We have already thought of the normal veggie plates and things like that but what are some other things we could serve?
A: Do a traditional three tired cake or the sheet cakes. Cupcakes would make it look too much like a child’s birthday party. You could also get some breads and meats and have people make sandwiches and have a couple different types of salads. We did this for my wedding because it was too hot to serve a sit down dinner.
Q: For those of you who have renewed your wedding vows, what kind of ceremony/party did you have? details?
I’ve never been to a renewal ceremony so I was just wondering, how it plays out. like, did you buy another dress or wear your original one, send out invitations, get a pastor, have food and dancing? I know you don’t have a whole bridal party stand up with you again, but did you walk in by yourself (the bride) to meet your groom or was it more casual? I know you can do it however you want, but I’m looking for ideas from those of you who have renewed your vows and had a good time with it.
My husband and I want to renew ours on our 10th anniversary, because we got married young and didn’t get to have total control of our wedding/reception, etc. And we want to write our own vows this time and show our love for each other is still there. no rough patch, just the occasional bickering, like most married couples, lol. But also, we are picking out different wedding rings, because we want something more customized to go with our vows.
Also, did you do another bouqet toss or garter toss? We never did the garter toss at our wedding because I was younger, as well as didn’t have any music or dancing like I had wanted.
And this time, we want to be able to have drinks too. And having alcohol at a church just is bad taste, so where else could be have a ceremony? I’m thinking May, since that’s when we got married, but it also depends on when I get authorized leave from the military…..any ideas or suggestions?
Also, if you have any unique or creative ideas to make it more memorable, that would be great! and, we also didnt even get a piece of our own wedding cake! the first bite, yes, but we went back 10 min later for a piece after talking with guests, and it was all gone! a 3-tiered cake!
A: My parents renewed their vows on their 25th, and it was so beautiful! We all were more or less casual (my dad wore a polo and nice pants, my mom wore a pretty shirt and capris). The ceremony was at dawn in the gazebo where they actually took their wedding portraits 25 years prior. The only people in attendance were the two of them, the pastor, my sister and I, and my parents’ three best friends (as well as a friend of mine whom they hired to videotape the ceremony). Instead of formal flowers, my mom had my sister and I and herself all wear wrist corsages of our own design. My sister sang their original wedding song, and I read a poem I wrote for them. They redid their same vows. It was so incredibly touching. Afterwards we all went out to breakfast, and later that evening we had a “reception” by going to a nice dinner at their favorite restaurant, and coming home and having cake!
