Q: What do you think of my wedding cake?
Ive already asked this question but want to clarify: My wedding colors are white and black with red accents. I am having a 3 tier fountain wedding cake with the two staircases down the sides to two smaller, 2 tier cakes. I have a white cake toppers (calla lillies inside a heart for the smaller cake and a white dancing couple for the larger cake). I don’t want a complete black cake I’m worried itll be too dark or look gothic. So I thought a white cake but have a black lace design on it (so it looks like black lace is wrapped around the cake a little white will show but itll be mostly black), then some red flowers. (there will also be a ring of flowers around the cake.
Opinions or ideas please.
Clarification: BLack will b fondant, it doesnt stain, I want more black than white because my cake toppers r solid white. and I know it is a difficult design with the lace and everything, but a professional is doing my cake. (and its not solid black)
A: Do you have a pic? I don’t feel like reading all this razz matazz
Q: Wedding Cake Poll?
My cousins want to buy my wedding cake for us from this place: http://www.charmcitycakes.com/
Yes, its the guy with the TV show on food network. I am awed by their generosity, but concerned about the taste of fondant. We are going for a tasting and I will have to tell them what kind of cake I want for my wedding so they could design it and come up with a cost estimate.
We are not locked into going with their cake and I have told my cousins my concern and that if the taste is good, only then would we accept their offer. They are OK with this.
Now I have to come up with a cake idea!
My cousins were thinking of having our two favorite cars with a bow-tie and veil (his – Mazda Miata and mine – ‘71 Chevy Nova). While I like that idea (we are both very attached to our vehicles) I was planning on a bit more traditional looking tiered cake with little hot-wheels sized cars as our topper (my cousins do know me pretty well).
I had been theorizing about a tiered wedding cake with spiders iced onto it since the wedding is going to be on Halloween and just sticking the car-topper on top of that.
Does anyone else have ideas?
Our colors are black, white & red.
And before anyone accuses me of being young, we’re both in our mid-to-late-thirties.
science chick – i emailed them. They only do fondant. They do put a thin layer of buttercream underneath the fondant to act as a glue, but they only work with fondant on the outside.
Stamper – I just booked the tasting & design appointment this past week and it doesn’t take place until October 26th (3+ months from now) and the wedding is October 31, 2009.
I’m a planner
A: Awesome! I love that show! I like the car idea, its personal and unique and I am sure that they could make it look really nice! THey do seem to more concerned with how the cake looks (some of them don’t even look edible), but I am sure that if you let them know your priority is yummy cake they should be able to work with you. It looks like it would be easy enough to peel off it isn’t yummy enough for you but you like the cake underneath.
ADDITION: I wouldn’t try to do spiders and the cars. I would just run with the cars if you love them that much. SOme people may not ge tit, but that sounds so much better than the generic topper. The spiders may make it look cluttered, and you don’t want it to just fit the holiday. I think you would like the memories and pitcure of the cars with your colo better than a halloween cake.
ADDITION: I have watched that show a bit, and I think any that they put on the show has had fondant. They probably have other cakes that are more simple, but I don’t see the point in getting a cake from them if it isn’t one of their unique ones. They would rpobably be able to make one without it, but it doesn’t see like its their style. I saw one episode where they made a care cake (the entire thing was the car) for someone birthday. I am sure the could make the cars for the top, though that may get more expensive. I would do tiers to make it more traditional, but spice it up to suit your style and to make it worth going to the famous baker (who probably will cost a load no matter what cake you would do). You could maybe see about having it so it looks like they are driving out of the cake or down the cake. It could be like you two coming out of your wedding on your road to happiness (however lame this sounds).
ADDITION: Despite what other people said, I am really not surprised that they only do fondant. That seems to be the only way to pull of the cakes that they do. It sounds like I was not crazy in saying it can be peeled off, and if they seem like a great place to go for a unique cake I would say its worth it to get the fondant if you like their style. I could defintiely see them doing a really interesting cake with the cars, or with haloween things if thats what you want to do. I bet it is yummy underneath the fondant too. If you can afford it, I am sure no one would forget that cake and I doubt that you would regret it if you like thier style of cakes.
