Q: Why did the bride kneel to feed the groom wedding cake?
I went to a wedding in Uganda, and the bride and groom cut the cake before they served the meal. Once the cake was cut, the groom sat down and the bride got down on her knees to hand feed him cake. The groom then fed his wife a slice of cake and then everyone started dancing at the reception. Was that symbolic or was that just a unique way to have cake at a reception?

A: Well. Umm It sounds like one I went to that was Nigerian so I can hazard a guess that is the same reason why.
It is a symbol that the bride is accepting her husband’s position as the head of the household and the ‘leader’ as it were. It’s based on the bible where the man is the spiritual head of the household….and then on tradition where the man is the physical head of the household. It’s not her being subservient or anything btw, just so you know.

To be sure you can try typing in Ugandan or African wedding traditions in google then doing a search within result and put in kneeling and cake cutting or something like that.

Hope it explains somewhat.

Q: What is the point of the groom’s cake? Isn’t having a wedding cake enough?
In the area where I live, we just have wedding cakes, no grooms cake. To me it seems kind of tacky to have two cakes, wastefull too. I’m not trying to insult anybody who has one, I just don’t understand it. Now the money dance is a tradition where I live and I don’t see that as tacky at all.

A: It is common in the South to have a groom`s cake. My mother was from Kentucky and I think she said it came out of a desire for something heavier as a treat for the men as opposed to a fluffy white cake.

Usually it is red velvet or devil`s food or there is this Southern comfort/raisin/spice cake they often do in Kentucky. I think it is because some manly men in the South thought the frothy flowery cake was simply not them but they did not want to deprive their brides of it.

Another reason is it was a contribution to the reception from the groom`s mother. In the old days the bride`s mother and other female relatives would be catering the wedding. The groom`s mother and sisters would ask at the bridal tea (held about 2 weeks before the wedding for the bride to socialize with her own female relatives and her mother and sisters and aunts/cousins in law to be) what they could do to help.

The right answer in Kentuckian is “Nothing thank you. We have everything taken care of.“

Eventually MOG`s — especially those without daughters — started bringing a cake to the reception and not wanting the bride`s family to have to move things on their pretty table they brought their own — a simple square table put together by the groom and his brothers/dad — which became a wedding present as a side table for the bride and groom.

I do not know how much of this is true and I grew up outside the South and my mother was deceased when I got married so…this is my recollection of her explanation but I do not know how much is true and how much is legend.

You have no obligation to provide a groom`s cake but some couples do to keep up the tradition or provide something besides the usual wedding cake to their guests.

Q: Instead of a groom’s cake for our wedding, how about a groom’s pie?
While looking at wedding cake ideas, my fiance said he wished we could have a wedding pie instead of a cake. would it be too crazy to present him with a “grooms pie” instead of the “grooms cake”?

A: I think that is a great idea. I love anything people do to make their wedding personal and uniquely theirs. I’m sure your fiance will love it.

Q: Groom’s cake at the rehearsal dinner or the wedding?
I am planning on getting my fiance a golf-themed groom’s cake since he is a very avid golfer. Do you think it’s a better idea to present it to him at the rehearsal dinner (in lieu of dessert, saves money + something special when he doesn’t expect it) or on the actual wedding? ( plus: everyone will get to see it, not just the select few who are attending our rehearsal dinner. minus: people might not eat it since there’ll be wedding cake and other dessert). Thanks for your answer!

A: I was just watching a Wedding Cake special on t.v. yesterday (possibly on either on Style Network or TLC?). They said that it is fine to do the grooms cake at either event.

Personally, I would do it at the rehearsal dinner… my reason is kinda selfish, but I wouldn’t want the cake to “mess up” all of my beautiful, elegant decorations! :) I’m sure the groom’s cake would be cute, but since they are usually more whimsical, I’d be afraid it would detract from my gorgeous wedding cake.

Q: Where can I find a wedding cake topper featuring a bride and groom drinking wine?
My fiance and I are having our wedding at a vineyard and would love to have this accent on our wedding cake. Does anyone know where we can find a cake topper that has a bride and groom drinking red wine?

A: Magicmud.com makes custom cake toppers. They have one similar to this so maybe it can be tweaked.

Q: Why are the bride and groom on a wedding cake made of plastic?
I want to eat me a bridge and groom, dammit!

A candy bride and groom, not actual people of course – I’m not THAT strange.

A: I think among many reasons, as stated above, following may hold true:

1. Memento to keep for the children to play.

2. Do not start knifing each other or get knifed on the wedding day practice match (symbolic) (LOL)!!

3. Cannibals are not welcome at the weddings, hence plastic. (Ha-ha)

Q: Would it be too forward to dress the miniature Bride & Groom on the wedding cake in leather and chains?
And give the miniature groom a miniature @ss paddle?

: (

A: If the groom is on all 4s while getting spanked by the bride….then you saw my cake =)

Q: Wedding party theme for OFFICE halloween. Bride groom, Cake, Present, anything, I need creative ideas please.
My manager came up with the Wedding Party theme for halloween. We have 7 people, one is the bride, one is the groom and she is a “suprise” saying no one will come as what she is going to be. So that leaves four of us…Well I really just need one good idea for myself but it would be nice to have some suggestions for the other three people. And we can be absoultly anything to do with a wedding cake, anything. But I am trying and I can’t seem to come up with anything creative. There are two restrictions, we are in an office so it must be work appropriate and cover enough and we are in cubi’s sitting most of the day so we have to be able to sit down without a bulky coustume. Any suggestions? Thanks!!! : )

A: The Bouquet – wear all white and wrap cellophane around your body. Get inexpensive, fake flowers from Michael’s or Walmart and create the bouquet around your shoulders and head.

The Wedding Photographer – This person can dress up sort of artsy but basic. Wear a black turtleneck, maybe a pant suit and slick their hair back. They should hang a camera around their neck with a strap. It would be cool for this person to have a Polaroid camera so they can take actual pictures of the wedding party and hand them out. Or take digital pics and have pictures to email later.

-The Best Man – Dress formal with disheveled hair and have a plastic champagne flute in one hand (get at a party store) and fill it with shiny tinsel or something. In the other hand should be a long scrolling page that has in big bold letters “SPEECH” or “TOAST” and has several very cheesy sentences in bad taste.

-The Priest – Self-explanatory!

Q: Groom and wedding cake help?
My brother moved his wedding up and I was wondering what kind of cakes would be cute. Our cousin will be doing it so she will need to know within like 2 weeks. I got married on March 7th and here were our cakes http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=23583809&albumID=2314479&imageID=51072642 http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=23583809&albumID=2314479&imageID=51072599 They can not be too similar to those. As for the groom’s cake, my brother is athletic, likes hunting fishing and poker. He’s a normal guy.. I can’t find any cute pictures. Any suggestions?

A: How about one of these?

Q: When you fed your bride/groom wedding cake, did you do it lovingly or did you make it more of a messy game?
Just wondering if there’s a correlation here, so doing a very informal survey here…

1) When you married, if you did the little ritual where you hand feed a bite of cake to each other, did you do it gently & lovingly – nourishing the one that you love? Or, did you play it as more of a competition – to see who could get more cake on the other’s face & clothes first?

2) How long did your marriage last (or has it lasted so far)?

Just wondering if the cake ceremony could be an indication of how the marriage plays out.

A: 1 hand feed mess

2 still going almost 13 years

Q: Anyone know where I can find a wedding cake topper that has a groom with long dark hair?
I have long blond hair and my fiance has long black hair. I really want to find a cake topper that reflects that… Help?

A: Check out the cake toppers on ebay – you can even get ones custom made from your photos so their faces look like yours! Or just the usual cartoon ones with different hair. It’s a lot cheaper.

Q: Are groom and groom wedding cake toppers not the cutest thing you have ever seen?
Gawwwwww… look at the little guys… aww

A: No puppies are much more cuter!!

Q: Is there a place in Orange County that will sell me a Lakers ice cream cake for my groom’s wedding cake? ?
My fiance LOVES Baskin Robbins Ice cream cakes and Lakers Basketball. Are there any bakers or Baskin Robbins that can sell a custom cake like this? I’m getting married in San Clemente, California. I’m looking for something pretty small… and awesome! Thank you!!!

A: Most places will do custom cakes…give them a call & ask!

Q: Looking for a wedding cake topper with bride/groom holding guns?
I found a wedding cake topper with the bride holding and ak-47 and have been looking for it ever since. Bride/Groom holding any type of guns acceptable.

A: I’m all for personalizing your wedding, but I think this is probably going to far. I don’t think this is the kind of imagery you want to associate with your wedding day, especially right on top of your cake. I’m sorry, but this strikes me as inappropriate.

Q: Looking for a wedding cake topper where the groom is the one who is holding on to the bride.?
I’ve seen many where the bride has the groom on ball & chain, and where she’s holding onto him by the shoulders, etc…I need somthing like that but reverse…where the groom is holding on to the bride. And if it is an “ethnic” (black) couple that’s even better. If you know of an exact site that would have this or where I could get it made let me know please. I’ve looked at many sites and the only things I found where what i listed above.

A: Its about 1/2 way down…
