Q: black, white, and silver wedding?
I’m not sure if the silver is appearing as often as it needs to. Black bm dresses with silver ribbon, guys have silver vests, black/white cake with silver topper, black/white table cloths, and a crystal tree that has a silver trunk. We’ve only decided on one flower which is a calla lilly. We have some black/white damask decor like votives, candles, picture frames and some other things. How else can I incorporate the silver? And what color flowers would be ok to use besides white? I would prefer a little bit of color and I’m leaning towards purple. Advise please
We have also considered taking the silver out and using black, white and purple. But purple seems to be tricky b/c only certain shades go with black and some purple also looks tacky for a wedding.
A: We did black, white, and silver. I added a little bit of purple with just the flowers and it looked great! I had silver bridesmaid dresses and the groomsmen had silver vests and ties. I think though with the silver ribbon on the bridesmaids and the favors will all tie together. You should look for the silver vests on the groomsmen though, it looked really sharp. Everything you have sounds lovely and I’m sure it will look great. I worried it would look funny because the only color we had was the purple flowers but it really made them pop. We hung them from the head table and they really stood out in a good way in the reception room.
Q: I need a few different flavours of mud cake for my wedding cake. I currently have choc, white choc and caramel
If anyone could also give me some ideas for the cake, that would be awesome. im thinking of havng a 3 teir cake, with the bottom two layers cupcakes and the top layer a mud cake that my sister-in-law gave me as a wedding gift. the theme is red, white and silver.
A: This is an excellent site with lots of flavor ideas
http://www.ullja.com/flavors.html
Q: I want a red velvet cake at my wedding but my color theme is plum, silver, and white. is this tacky?
Does the food have to somewhat go with the color theme?
A: “OMG did you see that cake? It was red!! It so didn’t go with her theme!! This is the worst wedding ever!”
do you really think any of your guests will be saying that at your reception? No one cares if the actual color of the cake doesn’t go with your theme. all they care about is if it tastes good. When you go for a taste test, they don’t only let you sample the cakes that go with your color scheme. You decide on what you want to have and have it!! enjoy your day!!
Q: Can I still wear a white dress on my wedding day if the groom wants the theme to be black and silver? Tacky?
Groom wants a black and silver theme. Can I still wear a white wedding dress? Any suggestions on other colors?
I would like to hear any stories of previous weddings and themes/colors….and about the cake..how many people were invited and about the honeymoon
A: Hi, Yes, of course you can still wear white. You can go to www.beebows.net and look at bows in different colors to get an idea. You can have Pink, Black and Silver, Black, Silver and White decorations to coordinate it all. Black, Silver Hot Pink, Black, Silver, White & Light Pink, Black, Silver & Light Blue, Black, Silver & Royal Blue, Black, Silver & Purple or Lavender, etc. Black and Silver is very popular colors for weddings right now. BeeBows has really nice wedding decorations and Pew Bows for the Church and recption and they will custom make them in your colors.
Q: What cake design do you think would look pretty for a February wedding?
My mom wants to make my wedding cake. I want a 3 tiered hexagonal cake. Our colors are navy blue, white, and silver. I hate fondant, so she’s using icing. I don’t really know what kind of design I want. I looked on The Knot and couldn’t really find anything that I liked. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
A: I love the hexagon idea.
And I also agree that you shouldn’t use fondant.
Not only does it taste gross but it also sweats in cold.
February is usually a cold month, so you really wouldn’t want that.
I say do the diminishing look.
Do more twisties on the bottom and less on the top. Have them descend as the tiers go up.
Or just have it sleek wth a ribbon on the bottom.
Q: What do you think of black and white photo transfers on a wedding cake?
My fiance and I are zeroing in on a wedding cake design. Okay the truth is I’m zeroing in, My fiance doesn’t like cake and since I promised him I’d bake his favorite pie and make sure he has ice cream at the wedding he says I can choose whatever as long as its on or under budget. LOL!
I’ve got an idea I think would be great and would cost less than budgeted but am not sure if will come across as stylish or tacky. I love the idea of a three level octagon shaped (eight sides) cake. Some of the sides will decorated by black and white photo transfers of baby and toddler pics of ourselves, the location he proposed to me at and a few wish fulfillment images of locations we intend to visit and images that represent desired states of being ie love, joy, friendship, abundance and adventure etc.
Essentially the baby pics with mothers on the 1st level, pic of location he engaged, a great informal engagement pic of us on the 2nd level and future wish fulfillment images on the third level. This is also an olive branch gesture as my future mother in law is essentially being shut out of the wedding arrangement details as she confuses her opinions with facts and a defacto decision
The cake is meant to be classy but distinctive. The cake will be lemon with white on white icing, the odd silver embellishment with the black and white photo transfers all delicately framed by icing so they look like framed photos and with a touch of colour from the red rose petals strewn around the base.
Great? Too much? Tackier than a counter top covered in spilled molasses?
A: PAX,
I do believe it rises above the molassas experiment, but it sounds a bit dull architecturally. By this I mean the design sounds a bit simple at first. But maybe the simplicity will make it elegant. I would say you might only add photos on four sections of each layer so it’s not too busy. And put the white section of the above level, over the photo section of the lower level. That will give the viewers some visual relief. I wouldn’t bother with the silver. If it shows up in other decorations, make it just a few. Over done is over done, you can’t take it back. Learning when to stop is the hardest thing to learn in art and design. Black is usually done at late night weddings. Use more white than black to keep the balance light, not equal. Use clear, simple photos. If there is too much background, people won’t take the time to look at the work. You might need to work on the photos in PhotoShop to create the simplicity.
Here’s a personal opinion: the rose petals are trite by now. They’re over done. Circle the cake with red roses (red in roses means everlasting love). Simple elegance again. Or use just an odd number, which is more visually pleasing.
Q: Does anyone have any wedding cake ideas?
Ok so I’m going for my cake tasting this weekend and still don’t have a good idea on how I want my cake to look I’ve looked everywhere. Anyone have any ideas? My colors will be yellow, silver and possibly hints of hot pink summer wedding in July. But I’m still debating if I want a colorful fun cake or if I want an all white cake white sugar flowers. Please help add pics if possible thanks!!
A: We plan on doing a topsy turvy wedding cake…
But, we are doing it in an aqua blue with orange ribbon going around it.
Here’s a cute one in all white

Here’s some other cute ones I found:
http://images.teamsugar.com/files/users/1/15259/16_2007/greencake.jpg <~~ You can do a yellow color, instead of the green here, and it already has hints of pink :)

Q: Me and my fiance want to have different colors for our wedding?
Well me and my fiance are having a winter ceremony in December but were having some issues she wants light blue and silver and I want romantic red roses. How can we fit the both of them in the ceremony? We also want a plain white wedding cake 3 layers how much do you think it will cost?
A: I think you can do all three.
My fiance wanted camo.
I wanted orange.
So, we compromised and ended up with Olive Green with red orange and ivory accents.
I’m doing olive green as the main color and the rest will be in the flowers and centerpieces.
You can do the blue as a main color, the silver as a accent and the red roses as your flowers.
Problem solved – it sounds beautiful.
Good luck!
Q: how do i set a 3 tier wedding cake?
Right my sister in law was on a very tight budget. she was given silly prices for a 3 tier cake. Then she thought of baking it. so we helped her out and its just a plain white iced round cake size 10,8 & 6.
we have a round base in silver where the 10″ cake will sit, but we need to put these little roman pillars inbetween each tier.
Trouble is the the 8 & 6″ cakes are not staying quite stable on the pillars and are abit wobbly and could or keep threatening to fall off!
How could we secure the cake and make a 3 tier cake. do we take the cake off the cake boards?
help she’s in tears!!!
A: I have made many wedding cakes its part of my job. Each cake needs to be on a thick board, thin boards are too flimsy.Pillars are hollow so you need dowels to go through in to the cake.
You can buy dowels from a cake decorating department buy the longest.Place the pillars on the cake where you want them when its finished push the dowel through the pillar into the cake take a knife and mark the do well flat against the top of the pillar, remove the dowel and cut the dowel at the mark with a knife this needs to be level, when you have done this put the do well back into the cake down through the pillar,do this to all the pillars.Remember the longer the pillar the stronger the do well needs to be,so in simple terms use shorter pillars and your cake will be more stable.
Q: What is the best wedding cake website?
I have looked at the knot.com and a few other websites, but I cannot find a cake fits my interest yet. I plan on having the possibly a blue cake? Because, our colors are pool blue, silver, black and white. What websites can I visit to get idea? I’m not necessarily looking for a pool blue cake – because I know that is rare. However, I am looking for interesting cakes that will give me ideas for my cake.

A: Your colors made me think of this cake I saw recently. Good Luck.
Q: Question About Making Frosting For My Wedding Cake?
my mom and i are making my wedding cake together, we are not having it done professionally but my mom has been decorating cakes since i was little…anyway we are trying to figure out how to give the white frosting a shimmer of silver in it WITHOUT airbrushing the entire cake, something we can put in the frosting or some kind of frosting recipe that will work for decorating but has a silver shimmer to it. any ideas?
A: Luster Dust would be my choice. Check with a local baking supply store in your area.
http://www.shopbakersnook.com/82.html
Luster dust is an edible food decorating powder which sparkles once it dries. It is commonly applied to the frostings of cakes and cookies, especially for formal events or during the holiday season, when many people enjoy rich gold and silver accents on their baked goods. A bakery supplier in your area probably stocks luster dust, and you can also order it through mail-order companies which specialize in baking products.
Although gold and silver are both common, luster dust comes in a range of colors, from bold primaries to jewel tones. It can be used to create highlighted accents on a finished piece, or it can be applied in larger volume to give a baked good a glossy finish. The product may also be called sparkle dust, pearl dust, or sparkle powder, and it is perfectly safe to eat, just like the gold and silver leaf which are applied to fancy cakes.
A container of luster dust is typically rather small, because a little bit goes a long way. To use it, you will need to dissolve the dust in an extract which contains alcohol such as vanilla or orange extract, or an alcohol like vodka; by using an alcohol solution, you ensure that the moisture will evaporate after the luster dust has been applied. Mixing luster dust with water or other liquids is not recommended, as it can turn sticky and dull.
Once the luster dust is mixed, it can be applied with a small brush. Cake decorators typically frost a cake with a matte white frosting and then apply luster dust over the white; the frosting will glow through the luster dust, making the cake sparkle in good lighting. There are lots of ways to apply luster dust, from a gentle brushing of a whole cake to give it a rich glow to a streak on a holiday cookie for some pizazz.
Many companies sell packages with a rainbow of luster dust colors. Colors can be blended for subtle shading, or mixed individually and painted on to create shimmering images. It can also be used in an airbrush decorating tool, or you can dip fondant flowers in luster dust to turn them into sparkling decorations. Luster dust can also be used to highlight leaves, flower petals, and other sculpted decorations on a cake, although this requires a fine brush and a steady hand.
Q: Help with cupcake ideas for Christmas wedding?
Instead of a cake, I’m doing a cupcake tier for my wedding. Our colors are red and white with silver accents. I’m baking them myself and trying to make them look as classy as possible so they don’t look like birthday cupcakes.
I found this website:
https://secure.lucks.com/bpcsom/nxcsc.nsf/ListProducts?openagent&ListMenuEntry=09CCF3A6FCA3921F8825747800585A88&MenuEntry=09CCF3A6FCA3921F8825747800585A88&SID=5073D10A5D99BC3A88257675005CF236
They have all types of gum paste flowers to put on the cake, but I’m not sure which to use. We’re using red roses for the bouquets, but I don’t like the way their gum paste roses look.. so I want to use something different, but I don’t know what. I want it to have a very classy, winter look.
Also, what color icing should I use? We’re doing white wedding cake mix for the cupcakes. That same website has some airbrush shimmer stuff that you can use on the icing also that I thought about using.. again, just don’t know what color.
Any suggestions/ideas/pictures are welcome! Thank you so much!
Sorry, try this link:
http://tinyurl.com/yfma7ky
Wow.. I appreciate everyone’s responses.. but so far, nobody has answered my question? :
A: What a great idea! I love it, seriously
I read this wishing I could make them for you… it’s my passion lol
For the actual cupcakes – white is the way to go
Icing – also white, make sure you compare icing colors first.
Some vanilla icings have a tint of yellow or beige. You want snow white not cream
Decoration- I saw that website, the red roses are actually pretty cute and very neat. I would think when you make 150 of these and display them, they are going to look magnificent!
If you want more realistic roses, look for another supplier or I suggest you make them yourself, a few days before the wedding. It will be time consuming.
I’m not sure what size roses you would like, but the red roses on that website are 1 3/4 inches which i would say is a good size.
if you only want one rose on each cupcake do not get anything that is 2 inches or larger, it will dwarf the cupcake with the additional decorations :S
This is how i would complete the look:
one rose on the semi-thick snow white icing
not centered, but to the side/ upper corner
very dark forest green leaves, about 2 or 3, coming out from under the rose
silver, shimmery accents also coming out from under the rose
(the leaves and the accents should come out from under the corner to the center – pointing towards the opposite corner)
for silver accents i would suggest something like baby breath flowers (sprayed with that silver airbrush stuff)
Display – cup cake tower, you can never go wrong with that
You can even make the center tier and cake topper a bunch of red roses and baby breath flowers.
Congratulations and good luck!
If you need any help let me know
lol

I need real help people no jokes or stupid suggestions like “Ace of Cakes” please.
Shannon I love the last cake link you posted its gorgeous and fits what i’m looking for.
A: Wow, that is one of the first things I got done, but I am still looking for my venue so I am in a bad spot myself. I typed in Texas Bakeries and it came up with these
http://www.gatheringguide.com/event_directory/rc/tx_texas/evl_cakes_desserts_bakeries.html
but what I did is used a local grocery store, I would recommend them to you, but they are Richmond VA based only. I would try local grocery stores, they are usually cheaper than bakeries (Wal*mart, Sam’s, etc)
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=120764
BTW, they have more of a selection than what is listed on that page.
I would go with a simple, elegant white cake with blue piped or fake/real flowers.
http://www.wedding-cake-advice.com/images/blue-flower-wedding-cake.jpg
That one is very pretty, you can take a pic of what you want and they can make it at most any bakery.

BTW, I typed in Wedding Cake with Blue Flowers into Google Images and it came up with those pics
Hope this helps!
I am so glad to have helped
Q: Hmm… some opinions on wedding stuff please? =)?
Please tell me what you think of this dress.
http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns_detail.jsp?stid=2827&prodgroup=255#reviews
I’d be getting it in ivory/red as I’ve picked the colors of red, white, and silver of course, for my wedding theme.
I’m a petite woman so this dress would fit well on me, it can be put together for a petite woman…
Also.. do you think it would be strange to have chocolate cake for my wedding cake? It’d look traditional on the outside, but be chocolate inside.. I don’t like white cake..
Thanks Toronto, I appreciate your input!
But even though I’m petite, I’m not lacking in the bust department, so I’m not too worried about the sash at the top..
Thanks Kate, I am having a traditional wedding, in a small catholic church, inviting about 150 people, minimal decorations, some flowers and ribbons, then I’m having a buffet sort of reception with liquor for the adults of course, then gift opening, garter belt removal, bouquet toss, and off to the honeymoon!
We’re not opening ALL the gifts at the reception, we’re opening our gifts to each other, bride and groom… it’s a tradition in my fiance’s family and he asked we open a gift from each other at the reception haha.
A: I think the dress is breathtaking. It’s a simple design, but if it wasn’t then the red accents wouldn’t look as great. Very elegant.
It’s your wedding – go for the chocolate! I wouldn’t worry about it being seen as strange. Sounds like you’re going to have the wedding be essentially traditional with a few twists (dash of red on the dress, chocolate cake instead of white) which I really like.
Congratulations by the way!
