Q: saw a white butterfly wedding cake on a tv commercial. Help me find it? ?
I was watching tv a couple of weeks ago and saw a white tiered wedding cake with butterflies of all colors spiraling around. Can’t remember if it was food network, style or hg tv. I want my wedding cake designed like that. Can you help me find it?
A: If I’m not mistaken you saw the butterfly cake by ‘Cakegirls’ on the WE television show ‘Amazing Wedding Cakes’
Was this is?

Q: What do you think of black and white photo transfers on a wedding cake?
My fiance and I are zeroing in on a wedding cake design. Okay the truth is I’m zeroing in, My fiance doesn’t like cake and since I promised him I’d bake his favorite pie and make sure he has ice cream at the wedding he says I can choose whatever as long as its on or under budget. LOL!
I’ve got an idea I think would be great and would cost less than budgeted but am not sure if will come across as stylish or tacky. I love the idea of a three level octagon shaped (eight sides) cake. Some of the sides will decorated by black and white photo transfers of baby and toddler pics of ourselves, the location he proposed to me at and a few wish fulfillment images of locations we intend to visit and images that represent desired states of being ie love, joy, friendship, abundance and adventure etc.
Essentially the baby pics with mothers on the 1st level, pic of location he engaged, a great informal engagement pic of us on the 2nd level and future wish fulfillment images on the third level. This is also an olive branch gesture as my future mother in law is essentially being shut out of the wedding arrangement details as she confuses her opinions with facts and a defacto decision
The cake is meant to be classy but distinctive. The cake will be lemon with white on white icing, the odd silver embellishment with the black and white photo transfers all delicately framed by icing so they look like framed photos and with a touch of colour from the red rose petals strewn around the base.
Great? Too much? Tackier than a counter top covered in spilled molasses?
A: PAX,
I do believe it rises above the molassas experiment, but it sounds a bit dull architecturally. By this I mean the design sounds a bit simple at first. But maybe the simplicity will make it elegant. I would say you might only add photos on four sections of each layer so it’s not too busy. And put the white section of the above level, over the photo section of the lower level. That will give the viewers some visual relief. I wouldn’t bother with the silver. If it shows up in other decorations, make it just a few. Over done is over done, you can’t take it back. Learning when to stop is the hardest thing to learn in art and design. Black is usually done at late night weddings. Use more white than black to keep the balance light, not equal. Use clear, simple photos. If there is too much background, people won’t take the time to look at the work. You might need to work on the photos in PhotoShop to create the simplicity.
Here’s a personal opinion: the rose petals are trite by now. They’re over done. Circle the cake with red roses (red in roses means everlasting love). Simple elegance again. Or use just an odd number, which is more visually pleasing.

Q: Does my wedding cake have to be same colors and flower design as my flowers.?
For my wedding flowers I am having white roses, blue delphinium, pink spray roses and possibly black eyed susans. The cake design I chose is just a round 2 teired (only 60 guests) white cake with blue rose buttercream flowers around the cake and on top of the cake as a cake topper. I didn’t want to use pink, just blue and white. But the flower design is not exact (blue buttercream icing roses). In my bouquet there will be white roses and blue delphinium. I have been wondering if the type of flower has to match exactly and the blue color may not match perfectly. I don’t want fresh flowers on my cake either. This may seem like a really silly detail to obsess over but I want it to look nice. Am I turning into bridezilla or what!!!! Any opinions would be welcome.
A: First of all, no, you are not a bridezilla. I watch the show (it’s my Sunday night amusement) and until you start stomping around here and throwing out the f-bombs, you are not a bridezilla!
First, as question or two. Are you set on blue roses? Is your cake decorator talented enough to do something more than roses?
I think it is great that you have chosen one of the colors. I was recently to a wedding where they had all the floral colors on the cake. It was just too busy and did not look good. Perhaps if the shades had been the same as the flower itself, but instead they were as bright as you could get and gawdy. (Red, Pink, Orange, Yellow)
If your decorator can do it, would it be possible to have the cake decorated with sprays of buttercream delphiniums? I have a picture of what that would look like in my mind, but the closest I could find would be similar to this picture:

http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/yhst-7919480820973/cherry-blossom-wedding-cake.JPG
(Imaging Delphinium sprays instead of the flowers shown.)
I think the only difference in doing something like those included above is that they use a rolled sugar fondant instead of buttercream because it gives it more stability.
Either way, do what you want! It is your wedding, you only get to do it once, and you are the one that will regret it if it isn’t done your way!
Good luck and Congrats!
Q: What cake design do you think would look pretty for a February wedding?
My mom wants to make my wedding cake. I want a 3 tiered hexagonal cake. Our colors are navy blue, white, and silver. I hate fondant, so she’s using icing. I don’t really know what kind of design I want. I looked on The Knot and couldn’t really find anything that I liked. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
A: I love the hexagon idea.
And I also agree that you shouldn’t use fondant.
Not only does it taste gross but it also sweats in cold.
February is usually a cold month, so you really wouldn’t want that.
I say do the diminishing look.
Do more twisties on the bottom and less on the top. Have them descend as the tiers go up.
Or just have it sleek wth a ribbon on the bottom.
Q: I need help choosing a wedding cake design- can you help?
I would like a simple 3-tier cake- most likely white or ivory color. The cake topper will be the Precious Moments Bride and groom. I was thinking of putting some flowers in between the tiers and around the cake topper. I need to find a picture of an elegant cake so I can show the baker exactly what I am talking about. Can anyone help and send me links to some cakes?

Q: What filling for a wedding cake with cherry blossom decorations?
I am making a cake for a cake decorating contest.
We’re to make a double layer, 8″, round cake.I’ve decided to make the top layer of my dream wedding cake. I will oneday (hopefully) make my own cake and will use this as a bit of practice.
I will be using a white cake flavored with almond extract. I want to use some sort of filling, but not sure what to use.
I’m not sure if the cake will be jade green (to continue the asian theme) or will be slightly off-white. The flowers will be whitish-pink to a light hot pink. They will be sprays of cherry blossoms.
Here are my inspiration cake designs: http://www.perfect-wedding-day.com/cherry-blossom-cake.html
Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion!
A: We had a cherry blossom theme cake, but our cake was chocolate ganache with a raspberry filling:

I think raspberry would be perfect with white cake, too. If you are looking for something extra special, cherry blossom flavor is used in lots of sweets in Japan (cake flavoring, icing, jam, fillings, etc). Maybe you can find something online. Like this:

Q: What do you think of my wedding cake?
Ive already asked this question but want to clarify: My wedding colors are white and black with red accents. I am having a 3 tier fountain wedding cake with the two staircases down the sides to two smaller, 2 tier cakes. I have a white cake toppers (calla lillies inside a heart for the smaller cake and a white dancing couple for the larger cake). I don’t want a complete black cake I’m worried itll be too dark or look gothic. So I thought a white cake but have a black lace design on it (so it looks like black lace is wrapped around the cake a little white will show but itll be mostly black), then some red flowers. (there will also be a ring of flowers around the cake.
Opinions or ideas please.
Clarification: BLack will b fondant, it doesnt stain, I want more black than white because my cake toppers r solid white. and I know it is a difficult design with the lace and everything, but a professional is doing my cake. (and its not solid black)
A: Do you have a pic? I don’t feel like reading all this razz matazz

Q: how much would you pay for this wedding cake?
http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/rr86/yoo_lacey/cherry-blossom-wedding-cake.jpg
It’s a light white ivory cake with a creamy custard filling and french butter cream icing. It has a fondant outside and the design is a cherry blossom branch. It serves 130 guests.
A: that’s probably 9 to 11 dollars a slice (minimum).
I’d say between $1170.00 and $1430.00 for the cake.
Q: I am planning on making my sister’s wedding cake with different flavored cupckes…any design ideas?
I’m thinking of chocolate, spice, carrot cake, and white.
A: Get pieces of Styrofoam cut into circles from 36″+ down to 4″ (for the top cupcake). If the cupcakes are 4″ in diameter cut the circles so there will be 4″ tiers……all the way around…..which means 8″ variations on the circles’ diameters……(36″-28″ -20″- 12″-4″). When stacked it should look like the shape of a traditional wedding cake. Practice with cardboard cut-outs first, so you can get the picture of the finished “platform”. You can spray-paint or drape the Styrofoam with something white……or silver…..
The more people that are at the reception….the bigger the “platform” for the cupcakes needs to be. It does NOT have to hold every single cup…..you can have an attendant at the cake and they can constantly “update” the missing pieces of cake that people eat. Try to pick a corresponding icing decoration to signify which flavor the cake is. The main icing on top could be a creamy white colored sour-cream/cream-cheese icing that would go well with any of the types of cakes you’ve chosen.
I hope you see what I’m trying to describe………e-mail me if you need clarification. One problem you may run into is that it takes two hands to undo a cupcake from its wrapper. Most reception food requires only a fork or a couple of fingers. Can you “pre-peel” the wrappers and still have them look nice?? Try different methods out on some of the family before the reception to see if very old people and very young kids can navigate a plate and a drink and a fork and a cupcake wrapper…..with nice clothes on. It’s a tough job to test cupcake etiquette…..but SOMEONE has to do it!!! Volunteers should be easy to find.

Q: In need of good wedding cake pictures?
Hello. I have some decent pictures of what I want for a wedding cake. Basic 3-4 tiered, round, buttercream cake with real roses with some subtle white frosting design (dots or floral designs). Do you have any great sites that I can take a look at with tons of cake pictures?
Thanks in advance!
Kate
A: theknot.com has over 1000+ cake pictures.
I’ve also looked at Martha Sterwart’s website… the wedding section. She’s go lots of cakes.. I don’t know about 100 or more but it’s an idea.
I would definitely check out the knot though.

Some amazing cakes can be found there. With flowers and details and both! I know, I’ve looked!
Good luck!
Q: Which table linen will clash least with our wedding cake?
The questions about the “little details” are driving my fiance crazy, so this place was my next best option! Our wedding cake is going to be white with a persimmon design. The cake is also going to have gold and persimmon flowers. Our linen colors are buttercup and persimmon, with persimmon being the color of the bridal party’s table. Persimmon was also going to be the color of the cake table linen. However, now I am thinking that is way too much persimmon! Our other options:
B. buttercup linen (which is the same as every other tablecloth in the house, except for the head table)
C. Ivory (which I think is weird to have *one* table be ivory)
D. Green (same as the above.)
I am feeling like there is no win-win scenario here. However, I was also told that the cake table is it’s own entity and doesn’t necessarily have to match. (And may I say I *never* thought I was ever going to get this nitty gritty about wedding details! Ay caramba!) Thank you in advance for your input!
A: It really depends on how much persimmon detail is on the cake. You said it’s basically white with persimmon and gold. I’m guessing the head table will be persimmon and the guest tables will be the buttercup color. Maybe you could do all of your accessory tables in persimmon (place cards, gifts, DJ, etc.) That might add some continuity to the theme of the linens.
If you don’t get an answer that you like here, definitely call the rental company you are getting the linens from and ask their opinion. They do hundreds of weddings a year, so they probably have a ton of creative ideas on how to coordinate the colors.
