Q: what kind of cake is the traditional wedding cake (plain white w/o filling?, white cake w/?filling?)?
My future mother in law is making our cake- and she did a practice one the other day- it was yellow cake w/ apricot filling, and sweet cream (i think) homemade frosting. It was alright- but didnt taste special like i think (or thought) a wedding cake should be. What is the traditional ingredients for a weddding cake?
A: There are NO traditional ingredients, however if your mother-in-law is not a professional, I would suggest she abstain from making the actual wedding cake. These are very tricky to get right and take a lot of practice (more than just one), and this is your special day. You might want to go with a professional bakery since this is your special day, unless of course this is going to create a brouhaha. Suggest she make a shower cake or a cake for the rehearsal dinner. Trust me on this one.
Q: Does anyone have a recipe for an amazing white or yellow cake with light/fluffy frosting and berries, etc.?
Maybe kind of like a wedding style or summer cake? Thank you so much!
I’m looking for a white cake recipe, not a sponge cake. Maybe white cake with lemon curd and fresh raspberries? Something along those lines. Thank you in advance!
A: This Victoria sponge cake recipe has a strawberry or raspberry jam filling and whipped cream topping.

This strawberry cake recipe uses a white sponge cake as its base, and is decorated with a strawberry filling, kirsch syrup, and meringue topping with fresh strawberries.

Q: Have you ever had white chocolate wedding cake?
Today I have to tell the lady making our cake what flavor we want… And We have a few we want and can’t really decide yet… I was wondering if anyone has ever had white chocolate cake and if it tasted as good as it sounds. Not the frosting or filling being white chocolate flavor but the cake itself. We were only able to taste 3 of the cakes and we didn’t get to taste that one.. Here are the other options just in case you are curious
Chocolate cake w/ white chocolate mousse filling
Chocolate cake w/ chocolate buttercream filling
Yellow cake w./ chocolate buttercream
chocolate cake w/ vanilla buttercream
Yes I know chocolate buttercream filling is in there a lot it tasted really yummy!
Just so everyone knows, I’m giving thumbs up for all the answers, looks like another bored person with too much time on their hands is giving everyone thumbs down…
Well these are the other options
Cake Flavors
Pound cake
white almond sour cream
yellow
chocolate
dark chocolate
strawberry
coconut
pineapple
lemon
carrot
spice
white chocolate
We wanted to stay away from the fruit flavored ones because most of them we didn’t think sounded good and we didn’t think many guests would eat them
The fillings were
chocolate mousse
chocolate buttercream
mocha
espresso
caramek
amaretto
hazelnut
vanilla mousse
vanilla buttercream
banana cream
white chocolate mousse
raspberry mousse
key lime curd
lemon curd
coconut
strawberry cream
raspberry cream
pina colada
khalua
baileys
Again with the fruit, he wasn’t too crazy about most of them and I do not like the coffee flavored ones.
I’m turning into one of those people that bugs me, all kinds of additional information to read hahaha..BUT I was just thinking since I wrote the flavors and fillings for you guys, chocolate cake with caramel filling sounds kinda yummy. We are going to have to have like 7 tiers just to get all the flavor combos we like haha
B2B 8/30/08… we are also going to set up a desert table…with like 4 different types of cookies, brownies, pies, pudding, jello, and fruit platters. So there is going to be enough of a variety so that everyone should be able to find something.
A: So question for you, during the tasting which cakes/frostings/fillings did you try?
You want to offer at the very least 2 types of cake flavours for your guests, and tailor that number depending on whether you have other desserts. Which you do. You have a lot of other desserts. Do you know what kinds of pies and cookies and brownies etc you’re serving? Because then you can maybe ‘cross out’ those flavours for cake possibilities. At the very minimum, 3 ’safe’ flavours are white, chocolate, and lemon, or some kind of fruit, From there, you know you can get creative. EAch tier is anywhere from 3-4 layers, which means you can get more possibilities in if you keep the cake itself ‘fairly’ neutral’ (e,g, within the chocolate family) and then have 2 or 3 different fillings for that one tier, that would coordinate with the chocolate (like raspberry or strawberry, chocolate ganache, and coffee liqueur-just as examples). Then do something different with your second tier. Say a white cake of some kind, e.g. the WASC (white almond sour cream) with a variety of fillings, mango, lemon, pineapple, etc.
I have a white chocolate cake recipe that I’ve played around with that has white chocolate in the cake, as well as in the buttercream and in the filling. Because there is no actual cocoa solidsin white chocolate, basically sugar, lol, it’s VERY sweet, and if you can say contrast the white chocolate cake with a light frosting, that is less sweet, like whipped cream (if heat won’t be an issue in your venue), so that people can taste the subtle smoothness of the white chocolate in the cake, and not have it overpowered by more chocolate in the frosting, or some other strong frosting flavour. I found that works best when I’m pairing up cakes/frostings/fillings flavours. White chocolate is sweet but delicate.
Like I said, you have plenty more flavour options if you make your 3 tiers more neutral flavours (not flavourless or plain, but just not a distinct flavour that will limit what fillings and frostings you can pair up with) and then you can use 2 or 3 complimenting filling flavours for each tier, plus the frosting. So I guess doing the math, lol, that means what, like 6-10 flavour options for one three tiered cake, instead of 1-3/
Good luck and congrats
Q: Wedding Cake choices?
Do most people opt for the special filled cakes? Like chocolate mousse or raspberry something or other.
Or do a lot of people stick with traditional white/yellow cake?
My opinion, the filled cakes are rarely good. Just weird tasting.
Then again, I rarely like store bought cakes anyway. The frosting they use and the preservatives in it all make me sick.
Homemade all the way!
Just curious. Are wedding cakes traditionally the filled kind or strictly the white/yellow cake?
A: There isn’t a “tradition” anymore. Anything goes! Consider what the largest number of your guests would like!
Q: Wedding cake, how do I make the white icing that goes over the Almond paste/Marzipan?
I am a man who has no baking experience whatsoever, I made a nice fruit cake & coated it with the traditional yellow Marzipan/Almond paste, I rolled it out and it looks ok, now I need help please to make the white sugar cream that goes hard over the top, I cant find the recipe or instuctions anywhere, I am grateful for the help.
I am getting married on Saturday 22nd September 2007
HELP!!
Thanks
A: Do you mean Royal Icing?
http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/royal-icing,1040,RC.html
Buttercream will not work over marzipan. It is too soft and will soak through.
Q: what flavors should my wedding cake be?
i have people that don’t like vanilla cake and i have people who don’t like chocolate we are haveing a heart shaped wedding cake with a 14″/10″/6″ and a sheet cake that is heart shaped and is 14″
the sheet cake can feed 72 poeple and the teired cake can feed 110 people w/o the top of course… how should i go about flavors… my fiance and i like white/yellow/vanilla cake only…. how should we do this should we do what we want or everybody else eats?
A: With a tiered cake of that size you can often have two or more different flavors (ex: alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla cake). Ask your bakery if this is an option!
Good luck!
Q: Fancy schmancy wedding or tacky spectacle?
Settle the debate.
One half of the equation wants your traditional church wedding, white cake, white frosting, pomp and circumstance kind of affair. Sit down dinner, dancing, toasts.
The other party wants a laid back, “my way” style wedding, with yellow cake, chocolate frosting, come dressed as you are, outdoor ceremony. Barbecue and hang out session.
What will it be?
And the second one mentioned an Elvis impersonator.
A: I think that you can do a little bit of both…do a combination of both styles to have a fun and relaxing wedding..just make that you are 100% satisfied with all of your decisions because that is a day that you will never forget…

A: maybe this… but with frosting flowers?

Q: Does anyone have any wedding cake ideas?
Ok so I’m going for my cake tasting this weekend and still don’t have a good idea on how I want my cake to look I’ve looked everywhere. Anyone have any ideas? My colors will be yellow, silver and possibly hints of hot pink summer wedding in July. But I’m still debating if I want a colorful fun cake or if I want an all white cake white sugar flowers. Please help add pics if possible thanks!!
A: We plan on doing a topsy turvy wedding cake…
But, we are doing it in an aqua blue with orange ribbon going around it.

Q: Im helping a friend plan a wedding. I have some questions..?
My friend unfortunately has 2 months until her wedding (250 guest invited) which happens to be on labor day weekend on Saturday. If I had known she planned to have her wedding on a holiday weekend I would have told her to change the date. She doesnt have a cake, dj, caterer, or a photographer. No one will help her plan her wedding so she is basically stuck planning it by herself and she is so stressed out. Her husband is busy with work he is in the army and work is stressing him out so she doesnt want to add to his stress. The caterer and dj she did plan on going with wont return her calls and are just full of drama. So I told her to forget them and we can find reliable people so I volunteered today to help her plan her wedding. I want to know if its possible:
1. to find a photographer for $500 for six hours or a dj for $200 for 5 hours?
2.She also just wants a plain 3 tiered yellow wedding cake with white frosting for $100. Can grocery stores usually do cakes like that for $100?
3.Also the caterer is going to be a big expense so we figured just a buffet would be fine, she didnt set a price for that she just wants the cheapest price possible. Are restaurants more expensive when it comes to catering?
4. Since she invited 250 people can we just assume that 200 will show up? I dont know what number to tell the caterer.
Also no we dont live in a big city(I know weddings are much more expensive in big cities.)
Any advice would be great! Thanks so much!
A: 1. Go online to your local yellow pages, print out the photographers there and start calling. Or if you know of any new photographers call them because they are usually trying to build a business and will be cheaper. I don’t see you getting a DJ for $200.00 for 5 hours. But again, look them up and call. If all else fails, put out a call to local high school kids, there are always a few who are trying to become DJ’S.
2. You might can get one from a local grocery for that much. Try Wal-MART FIRST.
3. Yes, restaurants are more expensive. GO TO A LOCAL TUXEDO SHOP. Ask the MANAGER or the desk person about cheap caterers. They usually have a sister or aunt who caters cheaply and it’s usually homemade and better than restaurants.
4. If she invited 250 assume that 325 WILL SHOW UP. Always go with the higher number.
If she hasn’t sent out invitations, she needs to re-think the whole thing. I didn’t take into account that she’s doing this on LABOR DAY WEEKEND. She’s nuts. Plus, you might just have family show up because who wants to go to a wedding on Labor Day weekend?? Tell her to re-think it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >>>>>
Q: Why do people choose such weird wedding cake flavors?
OK, I’ve had blueberry lemon and banana coffee flavored cake at two recent weddings. I had to ask what (the heck) the flavors were cause they certainly weren’t familiar.
Why do people do this? No one at our table liked either. Both expensive (and beautiful) cakes went mostly uneaten into the trash!
Also, both had unusual flavors for every layer that we had the option to choose from. No white, yellow, or chocolate cake, no marble cake, not even a layer with just one flavor (I could have handled just blueberry or just lemon or… whatever!)
I don’t understand!? One thing is both brides kinda went over the top with their weddings – in a beautiful way, but way expensive – could this just be a “top this” sort of move?
I really don’t get it!
Janecat: I guess I have cheap taste too… let’s call it simple. I can’t stand all the fancified (is that a word) combinations and plan to have marble and maybe just plain white! I DO want a cake that tastes good and to me, that means the simple, yummy stuff I grew up with.
Ms H. … I understand not wanting to be like everyone else – I wouldn’t either – but I guess for me, the outside of the cake will be what makes it unique and mine and different.
To me, the “inside” is the functional part – like a car – the outside is for looks, the stuff under the hood has to work… I guess I see the inside of the cake as the part that is for my guests, so I want to make sure they’ll enjoy it. The outside is the part that is for me, I’ll make sure it’s unique.
A: my friend was like that too at her wedding. not only were the flavors gross but the cake itself was almost kind of stale tasting. she paid a lot of money for it too. its sad but my favorite kind of cake is the cheap box mixes so i might have to have someone make my wedding cake with that haha i will have been the only bride with a funfetti wedding cake
Q: Wedding Cake?
I’m planning a summer wedding with many vibrant summer colours like yellow, dark pink, light pink and purple.
Both me and my fiance are not huge fans of cake, but we both love strawberry shortcake (like the fluffy angel cake, strawberries and whip cream).
Any suggestions for how to decorate a cake like that? More than likely I’ll be the one making it. I have in mind a three tier white, maybe pink wedding cake with either a vast assortment of fruit or flowers to decorate it with. Any ideas?
A: DO NOT make your own wedding cake. As the bride you have plenty to do without adding your cake to the list. Trust me honey, I’ve seen it done and it always turns out a disaster. Instead, enlist the help of family or a friend to make the cake for you.
Since it’s strawberry shortcake what if you set up an interactive bar where guests were given their individual cakes then could load up on their choice of berries, whipped cream, or sauces. Besides strawberries you could offer blueberries, blackberries, raspberry, etc.
Otherwise you could easily do angel food cake layered and iced with the whipped cream just like if you had buttercream with fresh fruit as your decor. On each table you can put a gravy boat with strawberry sauce or even chocolate for guests who want some extra flavoring.
It doesn’t even have to be cake. Pies, cheesecake, icecream sundae bar, brownies, a large stack of cookies. I even saw a wedding where they put individual servings if tiramisu in martini glasses and made a tower….it looked really awesome.
Q: Cupcakes instead of wedding cake – cute or tacky?
Hey,
I’m getting married next June, and it’s going to be a beach wedding in Oahu, Hawaii. My fiance and I never wanted a huge wedding – no puffy white dress and no over the top flowers etc. When my mother asked us what kind of cake we would like, we simultaneously said “cupcakes” – as in several tiers of them, built up like a wedding cake would be. My mother doesn’t really approve, and thinks it’s tacky – she’s a very traditional woman. They wouldn’t be hideous cupcake or anything, they’d fit in with the theme of the wedding – yellow and lilac.
What do you guys think?
A: CUTE! <3
Q: i need a cake recipes for a 14″ 10″ and a 6″ round cake pan?
im trying to get ingredients to make my sister wedding cake but i can not find it any ware and im stressing out so i need help i will be white cake or yellow lol idc i just need help!
A: just use a regular cake recipe, and make sure you only fill your pans halfway. That’s what I would do. Make sure you make enough batter for the pans. Most cake recipes are 2 – 8″ pans, or a 13×9 inch pan, so I’d say as long as you do the recipe AND a half, you should be fine.
Honestly, they say that you can’t beat boxed cake mixes…but I realize you probably want to make your sisters wedding cake from scratch. So, Martha Stewart (believe it or not) has the best cake recipes that I’ve found so far. Just browse her site and see what you can find. Also, if you need ideas on decorating it, she has TONS of pictures of cakes in her wedding section.
You can also find ideas if you go to Walmart and look in their wedding crafting section. They sell tons of Wilton items, including cake decorating books (I’m sure AC Moore and Michaels does too).
Good luck
Q: wedding reception in a penthouse suite, any decorating ideas? Colors: Pale Yellow and White.?
Ok, the room is a little on the darker side. We are going to have cake, hors d’ voures, champagne and drinks…. I am going to have roughly 100 guests. Any help is greatly appreciated!
A: One thing you didn’t mention – what is the hue or shade of the darker room? This really matters, because sometimes the easiest thing to do is pick up on lighter shades of that color. I personally don’t like the pale yellow/white combo, only because they are too similar. A canary yellow with white would be really pretty, unless the walls are like a dark beige.
I do like the idea of incorporating tea lights (which I love!) as a way of brightening. Another option is to go with light metallics which can be very pretty – in fact, these were my wedding colors! Think of tri-color jewelry and those are the shades – pale gold, pale silver and copper. You can do a lot with this and make it classy. It would also go with darker beige walls.
